Buy, Sell or Hold: Garmin Defends Its Market Leadership

I think the best marketing too; Garmin could have is free software updates for already sold units. It is rather "galling" to have paid $1200.00 for their best mobile land unit and then be told that an update would cost an additional $200.00 per year to stay current.
They already have the software,(developed for newer models), it would cost them very little to make it available on-line to former customers to down load to their units and would give a "warm fuzzy" feeling to former customers knowing that the company was not trying to gouge them further. After all, you can now buy a new unit with current software and many new bells and whistles for about the same price, or little more, than the new software update.
I think that when I am ready to invest in the new bells and whistles, I will look for a company who sells the unit with free annual updates for about ten years.
New units could come with the new software in July, to give new owners some advantage and Christmas gifts would have the new software. The update could be made available to former customers in January. Tell me where I am wrong.
