Nope, sorry. XOM added C-stores about that time but I doubt it is much of a per cent of earnings.

Why would you use solar or wind when fossil fuels are cheaper? How many solar panels on your house?

  • Farmland Partners: Is This A Clean Energy Play?  [View article]
As to point 3: There was a French study that divided a farm into 3 parts. One part was completely covered by solar panel installed high enough to permit tractors to still manuever. A second part was only 50% covered.
The third had no panels. The yield on the completely covered acreage was much lower than the uncovered land. The 50% covered acreage produced the same yield as the uncovered field.

  • 5 Huge Misunderstandings About The Current Investing Environment  [View article]
A few years ago I read an article on SA. It was a very good article and I decided to look at the authors bio. He was a 17 year old from one of the Baltic countries if I remember right. My first impulse was to dismiss the article. Then I thought, what difference does it make how old he was or where he was from, it was still a very good article. Maybe someone without 30 years on wall street will have a fresh approach to investing.

So Gary, I don't care if you're 48 and a Democrat or Republican, you still wrote a very good article. Regarding point 3, I believe the only increase in overall wealth is when something is created by manufacturing. My brother observed 30 years ago that everywhere he traveled nobody was making anything. We need more manufacturing in this country. Ross Perot was right.

  • Amazon: All Eyes On Prime And AWS  [View article]
AWS and Prime are said to be the main drivers of earnings. But cloud services have constantly declining margins. Prime members get free shipping, which of course is not free to Amazon. So where are earnings, if any, really coming from?

If the earnings are $1.60 that's earnings over the Christmas season so it doesn't mean you can just multiply by 4 to get annual earnings. But if you did and gave Amazon a generous 30 PE that's $192.
