Shorting China and Financials: Money Left on the Table - A Cautionary Tale
HeadTooth - Why be so anal? The Dow has support, the NASDAWG has support, why can't the SKF have support? If enough people buying it think that it does, then it becomes a support.

WellPoint Falls Hard; Valuation Looks Compelling
srajan - With all due respect, I am well aware of what Wellpoint premiums are and I see what they reimburse my doctor. I also have been inside their corporate headquarters for many years, and like others there, was enraptured by mgmt when WLP kept making profits hand over fist. But some mgmt was very cruel, and I saw employees had to take "mental" health leaves due to the games mgmt plays with peoples lives. There's nothing worse than a company that abuses not only their employees but also their customers. THAT is why I wish they rot....
I am sorry if you had stock and have taken losses...but you have known Healthcare was making huge profits from 2000 to 2005 while premiums were increasing like robbery. The Healthcare premiums became a bubble, and like housing, have to come down so people can afford them.

3 Ways to Play Subprime Safely
      I disagree with your statement:
"The “shadow” rental market of foreclosed homes will also put some pressure on apartments, but rental homes do not compete directly with apartments. Most renters are not interested in mowing lawns and shoveling snow....
      I say:
When people have lived in a home, and had it foreclosed on them, they don't want to cram their family into an apartment. It would be really embarrassing AND they want a garage for their nice cars, and a place for their washer/dryer. They DON'T want to get used to a laundromat! If they have a decent, stable job, but poor credit due to the foreclosure, the best thing for them is to find an affordable rental home in the same school district so that their kids can keep their friends and classes. That would provide the least disruption to the family, AND would provide the landlord with much needed income (if the landlord could not sell the house originally.) After a few years, they can try buying a house again, or even purchase the house from the landlord if it works for everyone.
Most would prefer to shovel snow and mow the grass to provide a home rather than an apartment especially if we have older children.

Market Outlook: Watch Out, the Signs Can Be Deceiving
      1. Cramer called it a bottom last week after 3/18/08. Then I looked at the LAST TIME he called it a bottom...Nov 30, 2007. So I wouldn't put any stock in his bottom calling.
      2. You have to look at WHO is calling the bottom and WHY. Of course, the govt wants you to buy things again, including stocks. They are using "some" journalists to shout their story. And some journalists may be thinking they are "doing it for the greater good".
And they might have 401K's and other long positions they are worried about.

      Dryships' Short Squeeze Potential
bdp1, regarding your: "the more conservative investors sitting in the crowd there .... are spooked by all the volatility in the stock late last year. "
You have to be kidding. Show me ONE stock that DIDN'T have volatility late last year...or more recently this year. If a stock DIDN'T move down precipitously several times during the last six months, then that stock surely has it coming soon, watch out!
"Conservative investors" who are they? I've never seen one. If they exist, then I think they may be scared to lose all their money because they've never made much.
VALUE and FUNDAMENTALS is the name of the game today. (No financial exposure and ability to generate growing profits.)
VALUE = Buy when Low P/E and expecting awesome earnings = DRYSHIPS. It will soon be run up as more investors search for value.

ON 03/24/08 SKF closed at 103.77. It may trade sideways a while. If you are long don't worry, you'll get another chance. My target says it will be going up to 160-180 around Oct 08. Remember, the Oct/Nov crash thingy?

Yeah well, it's time they got their comeuppance. They've been gouging the poor families/children, not to mention the doctors and hospitals by paying so low or hardly paying for anything, yet charging ridiculous prices for premiums. They've been giving the big execs huge salaries and bonuses, while working their admin to a nervous breakdown for low pay. They OWE the premium payers and the doctors and hospitals billions for their role in charging unethical profit margins. They caused the current doctor shortage in America because who would want to be a doctor today, can't even make a decent wage compared to the risk, and don't forget the "hassle factor" of the insurance companies. They are going down because the typical American has had enough...May they all rot......

      DryShips Deserves More Love
The EPS was lowered by analysts to reflect the dilution of the additional 6 mil shares offered, revenue expectations were not lowered you dingdongs. The higher EPS that was stated by the other analysts was cuz they hadn't adjusted for the additional shares yet. Get a clue or stay out of the market.
