  • Profiting from the Tapped Out Consumer  [View article]
"Consume ourselves rich" nice turn of a phrase there. But also misleading. We live and work to consume and provide. In econ 101 the prof said there were 3 segments to the economy; consumption, investment and government. I think Government is now over 30%, Investment they are saying now is too high with the savings rate way up over normal times. Consumption as a segment of the economy is down. Particularly as compared to past years when we were pulling $ from our homes and spending.

This higher savings rate will come out in future spending in the consumer economy.

  • Who Sold Sequenom Last Week and Why? [View article]
SEQureDx is a simple process? Maybe one you've indentified some fetal cells. Finding and identifying fetal cells in the mother's blood has to be anything but simple.

<<SQNM launched a hostile, all-stock tender offer for EXAS earlier this year for $1.50 per share (which would now be valued at less than 40 cents),>>

Apparently you think the acquisition of EXAS would have added no value to SQNM.

The quality of this transcript is awful. Is it from speech recognition software? Can't you hire a $20/hr transcription service to do these things well?

  • Has the U.S. Layoff Trend Turned? [View article]
It won't hurt too bad until the unemployment ins. is all used up, taxes dry up, and social services are stretched beyond limits. Right now the layoffs are so recent people are not really broke yet.

  • Barron's Plan to Save the Economy - For Just $200B? [View article]
Here's a better plan-- gov't take back the houses in foreclosure. Housing authority rent them out or put in poor people. Move displaced people into other homes. This cuts off the dysfunctional ownership. Good homes can be resold in the market.

  • Barron's Plan to Save the Economy - For Just $200B? [View article]
So those of us who were prudent with our personal finances get no benefit? If I were up for foreclosure I could rent out my house and keep the rent another 3 months. I know of 'investors' doing this very thing with mulitple houses.

Some of those HELOCs will still be good. They are not all underwater, even with foreclosure costs. And many folks will stay in their homes and pay the loans if the values are close.
