Excellent article! This gives a lot of the info that I need. The important issues are 1.the high quality of the product. 2.timely applicability. 3.patented technology. 4.absence of competition from a comparative product I believe 5.the focus on high energy costs and the green movement among others. Its great to get in now because later this stock could get too expensive or gains will be substantially smaller when it becomes better known by traders and analysts.

Great job.I agree with Richard Schweitzer..the split stock /huge reserves etc.The synergies in MTL are phenomenal...coking coal/steam coal/coal/iron ore and downstream ..rail system contract..they also own a port for shipping I believe. But my judgement is really based on their management aggressiveness.I have not seen quite this degree of expansion in such a short timeframe..issuing of preferred stock etc and planned sale of part of the co on the frankfurt stock exchange together with all the other production based expansion.I like peaks and troughs to make extra money but MTL is for long term as well even in a global downturn.I will surmise that political support is present as Russia needs to try to regain its status as a world superpower and through capitalism this time around.

Thanks tradermark, If the dollar continues downward, prices would increase even more.
Guys what do you think of a fertilizer cartel. Can this happen? I also read somewhere that IPI has the technology to do horizontal drilling which might give it an advantage over the others. Also to be fair nitrate producers benefit more from floods because it is more soluble and washes away easier. Finally the only serious commodity pullback would have to be a result of food supply increases relative to demand and this must be some way off.

IPI has so much going for it.New issue/floods delay planting thereby creating shortages and increase prices/floods destroy crops-shortages/ floods wash away fertilizers-need to buy more/IPI taxes lower than Canadanian fertilizer cos - greater net income/world food commodities shortage to continue because of greater consumption and changing weather patterns worldwide etc etc
The main objective of Bernanke was to subtract the fear nad speculation as a result of a weak dollar to curb oil and other commoditity prices...no other reason

BVN in Peru is doing well despite a not so good report because of dehedging in the last quarter which took away some of their profits.Stable country.Great reserves in Yanacocha.Newmont mining owns a big chunk of BVN.Next quarter and year should be great.
Yes I agree but also find a huge disconnect between negative sentiment ,earnings of S&P 500 (10% increase ex banks, financials etc over same quarter 2007 so far ), unemployment (down to 5.0% from 5.1% and 20,000 increase in jobless claims vs 80,000 estimated) reported today!Whats going on here!?Can anyone explain please!
Big Money Is Betting on Inflation, Not the Economy [View article]
Good point wrt the CPI.Take a look at the 'basket of goods'.It includes jewelry and wine but not the price of gasoline and other items that have actually impacted on the cost of living of the consumer in the recent run up.The Fed therefore does not see the need to address inflation because it is not easily apparent in the statistics although we all know that its much higher than reported. In any case current measures are necessarily inflationary otherwise they will not work to avoid a collapse which in any case will come soon enough.A rock and a very hard place! Cheers!
Intrepid Potash IPO: Soaring Shares Signal Fertilizer Bubble? [View article]
I love people like Abbi. For anyone to make money on a stock someone has to lose (eventually) on the stock.IPI and the others will pull back offering a great buying opportunity..but there is no bubble in agricultural commodities..at least not yet.If everyone was bullish that would be a bad sign.I am glad that she thinks the way she does

Excellent summary of the AG business without being too detailed.Really gives a good idea of the world picture wrt food commodities.I too believe that there is a long way to go for these products before a bubble can be declared. The only downside is a decline in world population!!

I have held a position in Capstone turbine for some time on the recommendation of Jim Kramer.I lost about 80% over a few months but held on firmly because this company has a great outlook thanks to high energy prices and the green movement.Recently the city of New York I believe included requirements in the Building Code that could benefit CPST and their international expansion and marketing have been somewhat effective.I doubled my position and have regained all my losses.I look forward to the inclusion of their products on buses which started in Italy I believe.I think this company has a great future!
Good information.Yes Visa takes little risk and yes it is a relatively stable investment over time. However history has shown that anything thats good doesnt go up slowly as we have seen today >10% as of now. Will continue to climb and quickly at that.Yesterday over 40% of the issued shares changed hands (on profit taking). There exist a great appetite for these shares...Visa has paid me back some....
