Electric cars EXPENSIVE to Buy and Run , The cost of a 2010 Volt assuming it can be ready by then is about $39K depending where You live it will cost You about 8 to 10 cents a mile to run on the battery . So to go 50 Miles could cost $5.00 Now with gas at $2 a gallon and driving a car that gets 30 miles to the Gal it would cost $3 to go those same 50 miles. So Electric needs about $3.00 Gas prices to worth driving it . Also experts say that the Current Power Grid could only support about 1.5 Million Electric cars charging everyday , anymore would over load the grid and cause major outages daily. Now there are currently Apx 250 Million Cars on the road so our current grid could support less the 1/2 of 1 Percent of them if all were electric . If even 10% are electric that would be 25 milllion cars , forcing a rebuilding of the power Grid est costs $3 to $6 TRILLION . If Gas stays around $2 or even $3 a gallon , It just makes NO economic sense as a Nation to convert to Electric cars.a Little know fact in the 80s Gm and Ford built 7000 electric cars , let the California Elite and movie stars use them as a experiment , The Californians loved them , but after 2 years Gm and Ford decided they werent going to produce them , rounded them up took them to a Remote spot in the desert and crushed them , its a fact , theres a 1 hour Movie Doc called .,Who Killed the Electric Car? Also 90% of our electricty is produced by Coal Plants putting tons of Pollution in the air every year , so any Clean air benifit from electric cars is probably nill. Whats the answer , looks like we'll be on oil for some time to come probably another 30 years at least. But at least currnet new models run 70% cleaner then just 15 years ago. We are making Progress.
