Ranks right up there with ebay tucking tail over the Australia fiascoe. ACCC told them "NO!" in no uncertain terms to ebay's Paypal only mandatory edict. Against their Fair Trade Acts. Ebay then said they backed down to "remove any confusion".

The Aussie's weren't confused! The Australian Government has a backbone and isn't afraid to use it!

      Enunciating clearly here:

The auction format is not weakened! Ebay is grinding it into oblivion beneath it's lunatic heel! They figure if they expound that enough, all will fall into line and believe it.

      "The auction format is weakened."

No, it's not. There is still a distinct place for it.

"Greater Paypal penetration". Oh dear, I'm not touching that one... but it IS apt! As ebay stock continues STILL to plummet (reminder: The Street now says "SELL!") and the ebay machine continues to snarl

"believe the buying experience will still fall short of other fixed price retailers". No, they'll never touch Amazon!

      As a point of interest:

      ebay wants to be Amazon.

Did you know, that Amazon will close down the account of a problem BUYER? Yep. They will. No problem.

Every heard of ebay doing that? NOPE! It's greed. They don't care if a buyer cheats a seller ten ways to Monday as long as greedbay gets their share of the cut. Sellers are expendable.

Such blatant contempt! Proof positive that ebay hasn't a CLUE how to duplicate Amazon's winning formula.

It's called taking care of business, done properly. In sumation, it's called integrity. Honor. Scrupples. Now there's a big one.

      Scrupples.

P.S. There have been approximately 60 to 70 policy changes regarding the buying selling practices since January 2008! ALL adversely affect the seller. ALL!

      eBay ++++

You are misinformed! "The Street" is now beginning to catch on! Read some of the articles -- not the comments only -- from analizers from Seeking Alpha and other places. "The Street" has a new ebay mantra: Sell!

The ebay stockholders ALSO. are NOW beginning to vocalize protests! They have not gotten their dividends in a loooooooooooooong time! They have grown weary of the joke and are tired of the double speak!

There are DOZENS upon DOZENS of boards and articles all over the internet of sellers that have left left left and are doing nicely elsewhere! (Moi included!) The selling / buying experiences at ebay now is a shambles! ebay has openend Pandora's box and it will NEVER BE ABLE TO CLOSE IT AGAIN!!! Knowledge is power!

Ebay shot itself in the foot and hit an artery!

Another ebay one-time-wonder-poster we've never heard from before and will never hear from again with the rah-rah-hip-hip-hurrah... But there is never, ever anything SUBSTANTIAL apart from nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-NY... NYAH!

I suspect they are a chosen few switching around the i.d. 's. They are never substantiated and never above second grade level hit and run.

The fact that the article's author flags ebay as the powerhouse for online auctions showcases how abysmally clueless and uninformed the author actually is! EVERYONE knows that ebay is trying to grind the auction aspect into the ground and destroy it, while claiming it's a dying venue! To become another Amazon. Ha!

If ebay mangement succeeds (I need spellcheck today), ebay will diminsh and vanish in a matter of just a few short years.

This anaysis is uninformed and several months behind times. Most analists, though not having a "hands on" grasp of the ebay experience, be it buyer or certainly seller, are now able to grasp that due to bazaar and extreme changes that are the result of extraordinarily poor management ,and is detrimental to the ebay machine.

A comparison to Walmart has no place here. It is nonsensical. Hands down Walmart will remain afloat due to the nature of the business model., particularly during these hard financial and electoral times.

What's in a name? The Street has now realized that ebay is in horrendously serious trouble and the "name" in stock speak equates: SELL!

      Me:

      Another one-time-posting-wonde...

Let me address your couple comments. If there were exhorbitant shipping charges, you have two options. First, you don't buy. Second, and here's the biggy... yeah, I said "biggy" so that current M.B.A.ed corporate management would be able to comprehend: This is a situation that should have, could have, been addressed THE TEN YEARS IT HAS BEEN ONGOING by said ebay corporate mangement, but has not been.

Secondly, the "customer is always right" is untrue. I have never heard of an ebay seller coming out on top. Never. Not once. This defies the general law of averages. Even when ebay says, "You're right!" to a seller, they still award in the "buyer's" favor and give him the money. In the face of OBVIOUS FRAUD. The documentation of this is rampant.

Amazon does not do this. It often happens that Amazon settles in the sellers favor. Now, make no mistake, they want their customers. But with proof, documentation, and proven situations, it is not unheard of for the seller to win in AZ claims. Amazon does not take kindly to fraud. You have a fair chance on Amazon, a fair shake. Amazon sets rules, and takes care of business.

Never happens with ebay. ebay is sleaze pure and refined.

AreYouKiddinMe: ignorance is such bliss. Only it's not.

Amazon handles the payment process. Start to finish. Collects the funds whatever the method. Period. Once this process is COMPLETE, then the seller is informed of their sale. And procedes from there.

      Simple.

Of course, ebay is the difinitive model of greed, so they'll never contemplate THAT.

Yet, interestingly enough, Amazon shares are worth generally twice what ebay's is worth.
