      eBay: The Next 4 Months

      Good post.

"The listing fee decrease is going to encourage sellers who have large quantities of slow-selling junk to list it on ebay, while the fee increases are going to discourage sellers who have more saleable or one of a kind items. Overall, it seems to me that the result is going to be bad for everyone."

There is so much junk on ebay already I cannot imagine the clog that will have escalated as a result of this.

What ebay, in their attempt to become Amazon, does't realize is that Amazon is extremely discressionary in their seller merchants.

ebay is notorious for turning a blind eye. Amazon most certainly is NOT! ebay has a mindset of "if we can get away with it..." Amazon does not embrace such a lack of ethics.

ebay was at one time a beautiful, fully functioning machine. Instead of empowering the effort that constructed such a dynamic, unique model, they used and abused and discarded.

What "outsiders" cannot grasp is that without the tugboat ebay to tow it along, paypal will sink. Paypal is the tip, ebay is the iceburg below the surface.

All these touted aquisitions are meaningless. What, airlines now signing onto Paypal? Airlines have been in financial abyss's for years now! I think the companies that have signed with paypal expect to be carried by the mother ship if problems arise.

ebay is the mother ship and she's in trouble. Ain't gonna happen!

Great comment! I would LOVE to hear what Jeff Bezos comments are regarding ebay NOW!

If he would even lower himself for the bother! :~)

      EBay: The Doldrum Years
Ebay User: Still trying to copy Amazon. Amazon for the most part sets a shipping price in most categories and you must comply. Period. End of discussion.

But the Amazon and ebay mentality differ and ebay has become crazed! They are out of their mind to instigate irratically radical changes.

Such wishy washy-ness. If Wall Street had ANY IDEA of the machinations going on they would simply be agog with horror!

For stockholders to continue to cling to their stock is now approaching the pathetic. Get a clue! Meg AND Pierre are dumping theirs!

Ebay has become the most despised company on the internet.

The second jewel in their crown is going to be known as the company of most morons!

How many policy changes since the beginning of 2008? Over 60? Over 70?!

      Can anybody keep up?!

      EBay: The Doldrum Years
      Erick,

It is not about the Doldrum Years (VERY catchy, by the way), it's about the Idiocy Years!

"This is not about fixed price versus auctions." Again, correct.
      It's about a BIG MESS!

Ebay is aiming at Amazon and can't even hit Walmart. Which I can get in my car and drive to.

Pause: You know, this makes the statement that Amazon is better than ebay. Does Headquarters not get associated message here? How pathetic?

And again, you're right. "People are comfortable with trawling the net..." Yep! Ebay created such a mess, people went exploring! And discovered there's a whole BUNCH of new worlds out there!

So even if some return, their attention has now been divided. Ebay has shot itself in the foot! And I think has somehow managed to hit an artery in the process!

EBay's New Fixed-Price Move: Amazon Envy?
      Response to Tony P:

I think you have hit the nail directly on the head. For years now ebay has attempted to pry the buyer's interest away from the special and unique. This last year, especially 2008, proves this.

I agree wtih you absolutely! The prized market could have continued to thrive if ebay had not set about trying to smash it! Look how hard it's been to destroy!

      Idiots!!!

Amazon vs. EBay: Looking Beyond E-Commerce
A few months ago I told my family and friends I would no longer sell on ebay (Powerseller, 100 % FB) but would only be a buyer. But there is no longer anything I want... there's nothing special.

Following was the witness of how truly awful ebay was to their sellers and I closed out my ebay account altogether.

I won't do business with a company that is so lacking in character and integrity.

      To Boaz Berkowitz:

Agree with your comments 100%. Many of these same small sellers have gone elsewhere and discovered there are other venues of opportunity. Many, also, of the very same sellers that were with ebay at the start and were responsible for growing the company have already left.

As stated elsewhere, ebay under Donahoe, and inspired by Meg Whitman before him, has opened a door they can never close. Paypal is tarnished and without the dwindling ebay to keep that glory ship afloat will likely also sink. Both companies have eliments of corruption that have now been exposed to light... by their own means.

Amazon is too good at what it does. And ebay never has been.

The rich tapestry that was once ebay is now dull and uninspiring.

By the way. It should be noted that the Amazon catalogue venue does not accomodate much of what the sellers of specialized and unique have on offer. And indeed, there can be no doubt that the SPECIAL and UNIQUE for the most part is what fed and grew ebay from the beginning. THAT is what is so very shameful in all this.
