Was eBay's BillMeLater Acquisition A Huge Blunder? [View article]
Excellent article on all points. My thoughts have always been that if BML was such a hot deal Amazon would have snapped it up. Intelligent direction with that company!
FAR from that with ebay.
The financial world is facing tough times ahead. We're in the eye of the tunnel now with this economical storm, but just wait. For a company with so obviously faulty steering that beat the economy with a downward spiraling pathway despite a healthy spreadsheet, to acquire just such a company as Bill Me Later once the econmy HAS commenced to derail is LUNACY!
Buy a credit company for close to a billion dollars when the very foundation of credit industry is cracking wide open?!

To The_Value_Investor:
"The BIG 3 sealed their own fate when they were given subsidies in the 70's and instead of innovating created the SUV."
Yes yes yes! I come from that time as a teen and young adult. Remember it well. The "Big Three" would not even consider building economy cars. Just plain refused. We were in a genuine fuel crises then. Any remember. Even and odd days had to tank up if your license plate was even or odd? The Big Three opened a Pandora's Box they could -- with good reason -- never close! The Imports -- mainly Japanese -- brought to the country their excellently engineered economy automobiles and the Big Three have NEVER recovered.
"Buy American"? only? Not this gal's dad. A World War II veteran who saw active duty in the South Pacific Theater, who fought at Okinawa, Iwo Jima, the Phillipines, among elsewhere, was one of the first to snap up those great cars. Without ever waging an inner loyalty battle.

To Chrysler Engineer,
If you want to make this political, the let's point the finger the right direction. "Way back when" Pres Clinton started after the lending institutes to relax their approval requirements! I easily recall that. Anybody of age as an adult in the U.S. of A. remembers that!!!
This housing and auto and financial collapse has NOTHING to do with the "war". It was not "CAUSED" by the war. It IS, however, rotten timing.

This report is already suspect. By "unique audience" could mean ANYTHING and with no specific revelations as to where the "unique audience" is garnered, plus the brevity and no actual weight to the generalization of specifics renders the report rather empty.
ebay's stock was plummeting like a brick loooooooooooong before the market crash. Try months! LOL LOL LOL. We all knew the cheer leaders would be using this to hide behind. J.D. made himself a laughing stock by "mentioning" this in his last Q3 phone in. That was also predicted.
Golly gee, if the stock hits Five Bucks maybe the thousands upon thousands of disgruntled ebay sellers should toddle out Buy It Now! LOL!
It might be only a drop in the ebay bucket, but you get a large enough group rocking the boat the same way and if the Board doesn't listen up finally, the boat might capsize.
Just a thought. But all you out there, take it seriously! Do!!!
I wonder if "non ebay" using Paypal users have probs with their debit cards? I just might find a reason to go out and give mine -- that has a balance from other sites -- a try! Hmmm?
Me and my circle of close family and friends, about 40 folks, have ALL of us, every last one, left ebay permanently. Everybody has had ebay garbage -- ebay garbage being garbage generated exclusively by ebay. -- dealt to them. And that's the small circle.
Believe it or not, responsible people just won't bother with a venue of ANY type that is riddle with corruption from site headquarters, daily policy changes, and broken programs.
Nice try. Very transparent in origin.
And the vile practices of a company as corrupt as ebay need to be exposed. And reported, reported, reported.
Seeking Alpha is not the only site doing so. Not by a LONG shot! There are MANY other sites and blogs reporting daily on the dysfunction and deplorable practices of ebay.
Probably shouldn't comment to that which you are in ignorance of.
I am a Pro Merchant. I pay a monthly fee plus commissions on sales. That's -- sales. Amazon collects the doe re mi and that's a BIG headache I don't even deal with.
Another thing. No problems with site traffic there, either. My sales are fine. Stability and rationality coupled with steady financial gain compared to incompetence and no sales... what comparison???

If ebay is "allocating the bulk of their holiday budget" to coupons they are acknowledging they are in serious financial waters indeed.

ebay stock, "ebay time" (couldn't resist), is at a low of 13.19. And as I refreshed, right before my eyes, it went to 13.18.
