Using a 20-year average money market rate of 4.61% when current money market rates are under 2% makes no sense. You need to compare the current yield of the stock to the presently available MM rates to have any validity. Sep 02 08:19 AM

USG Corp: Another Buffett 'Failure to Sell' Mistake [view article]
Since this article was first posted...USG shares got as low as $23.12 and are now in the $26.50 range.

Even mentioning the 2005 low of 'under $10/share" without noting that EPS that year were $0.57 versus excepted 2008 EPS of $1.79 says you don't have any idea of fundamental valautions. The same multiple on today's earnings would lead to at least a low $30's share price today- well above current quotes.
Even an 18 - 20 P/E on next year's estimates makes for a $40 - $50 minimum goal by year-end 2009. Jul 13 08:11 AM

If Buffett gives money to someone else to run on his behalf then then results are his in the same way that 'look through' earnings on companies he doesn't run personally are his. Jun 30 02:36 PMMEMC Electronic Materials: Climbing the Wall of Worry [view article]
There was a good article about WFR in Forbes a while back. They made the point the WFR was extracting onerous terms from their customers 'because they could" due to supply demand imbalance. When supply is not so tight these same customers may be very happy to drop WFR for other vendors after being goughed repeatedly.
Vendor - Customer relations are not very happy. Jun 30 08:07 AM

That's becuase a margin requirement is a non-cash expense if you write your puts versus paid up stock that's held in the same account. That's why I used the term cash-on-cash return. Jun 26 11:44 AM

Dean,You are correct that long stock & short calls is equivilent to just selling naked puts. I like owning ADRs of SNY, though, as their dividend [if you do this over a full 12-month period] far exceeds current money-market rates. Jun 19 11:40 AM

Sanofi-Aventis: Play This Low-Risk Combo Along with Buffett [view article]
SNY ADRs have never traded as low as $25 since they were first offered in the United States in 2004.Fundamentals are much stronger now than then so I believe that the chance of that low a price is quite remote.
