  • Apple's iPad Problem Is Lenovo's Wintel Tablet [View article]
I couldnt DISAGREE more with this ideology that the iPad is losing market share. From who is it losing market share?

This is like telling me Toyota won market share from Ferrari. Do you think Ferrari is competing with Toyota or Aston Martin, Lambo etc?

I consider this point a very myopic and amateurish one.

Secondly, do you know how much money Apple's competitors are earnings from their smartphone/tablet devices? Thats right, almost nothing. Lenovo said they are barely break even on their non-pc segments. And btw, the lenovo hypergrowth was because they started from a very small base.

Lenovo commented that they are just attaining scale! I wonder how the rest of the competitors will manage when they suffer the first sales blip.

  • Apple's iWatch Profit Potential [View article]
I agree, all this talk that the iWatch will be insignificant and cannot add profit to Apple is ridiculous. And the contribution margin from new product lines is much much higher. Apple is already running the stores, it already has the infrastructure in place. Feel me?

  • Apple's iWatch Profit Potential [View article]
Why is everyone scared of the iWatch sales. Just look at it this way, do we sort of know the problems that iWatch will solve or can solve? I think yes. If you understand how big of a problem health and fitness is and the power of biometrics, data collection and the opportunity for 3rd party companies(Developers) to work on that data to produce results by producing apps.

Then how calculate how many people need/want this thing. Then you look at the Apple scale and footprint. 60mm in 12 months? I think Apple should sell an iWatch to every person on this planet(more or less).

Do you know how important for health is even pulse and temperature? That shows a bunch of problems. Will Apple make people want to keep this data? you bet they will.

  • iPad Refresh Will Boost Shipment Figures [View article]
iPad users most likely have an iPhone right? So what is the problem of a bit longer product cycle? I think the most important thing, and what Tim says as well, is engagement. Engagement is HUGE! Apple is investing so much in user engagement and creating the infrastructure for develops to develop great apps and users to benefit from them. iPad is at a very nascent stage currently. Growth going forward is huge.
Do you know how many iPads have been sold since day 1? Not even 200 million ipads have been sold and a bunch of them are out of operation. I think there is huge growth going fwd from enterprise as well as retail users. Contribution margin on that is very big.

NicZ I couldnt disagree with you more.

  • Note On Cheap iPhones [View article]
    Great article. As always.

However, why do you presume a 20% gross margin? Why don't you expect a gross margin as Apple has historically made on iPhones? Because it will be cheaper means the gross margin will drop? I wouldn't think so.

Also, if Apple goes forward with this "entry level" iPhone. The numbers on it will be so big it will be a tsunami...

And yes, even if it does add 2 billion in profits, it doesn't mean the company should not proceed. A company should move towards value creation, no matter how huge or medium-huge!

  • Please Stop Using Ex-Cash P/E When Evaluating Apple [View article]
Meanwhile Apple is aggressively buying back shares at a very low valuation with all that cash you are disregarding.

    Thank you Mr. Market.

  • Please Stop Using Ex-Cash P/E When Evaluating Apple [View article]
Well I dont know Jim, talk to David Einhorn that nets OFF the cash from the valuation of AAPL shares. Tell him that his calculation is inherently flawed.

Not to say that a hedge fund manager is by definition PERFECT in all his assumptions. But I would debate all day that you are wrong and that cash should be netted off the calculation.

But anyway, I net off the cash, you don't. Do whatever you like.

But for the record, I think NOT netting out cash or debt is inherently flawed.

  • Please Stop Using Ex-Cash P/E When Evaluating Apple [View article]
I cant believe someone would write an article about this.

For starters, we don't care if some people deduct cash and NOT debt from the enterprise value equation. That's a stupid accounting mistake and you just used this to make your article a bit longer.

Secondly, let's say that apple didnt have 100 bln in net cash but had 500bln in net cash. What would you do then?

So my reply to you use. Please stop telling us to stop using ex cash PE for valuing Apple.

  • Please Be Cautious, Apple Bulls [View article]
Thats exactly right Author. You dont see how the iWatch will be able to offer you anything different.

It is Apple's job to show you that you do need it. And when you buy the iWatch, come and tell us.

Do you think Apple is going to launch an iWatch that offers nothing different than other products?.. Chances are the iWatch will have features we never though about!
