    • Formation Capital Offers a Rare Opportunity: a Cobalt Play [view article]
Let me clarify the above two comments. I did more research after the first comment. I think the non-diluted shares could fall another 50 percent because of the pending dilution issue. I think that after the financing package gets done, if it gets done, dilution could impact the existing share value by another 80 percent.

I say "if it gets done" because the true market cap of the company versus the amount of financing needed suggests that FCO might not get a deal that does anything for it or its shareholders. Perhaps FCO should consider selling the project after it gets its permit to proceed?

I just read your article and did some fast research. This share price collapsed in the past week or so. It's down by at least one third. I examined the dilution issue mentioned in the first comment, too. I think I could lose at least 50 percent of today's price if I bought shares today. What exactly made you buy your shares again? Good luck to you, Mr. Tan! Sep 17 02:59 PM

First, FCO's market cap is only about $60 million today. (My source is stockhouse.com.) Your numbers in your estimates are highly "optimistic"... FCO needs $165 million in financing to get the mine opened. Do you really think FCO is going to get its financing needs "aligned" with current shareholders? Shareholder dilution could be as high as 80 percent...if not more! Run the numbers and see for yourself.

You hold a position in FCO. What is your basis? It currently is trading around 30 cents. My thought is that you need to pump this stock (which is a potential nightmare for an investor) to possibly recover from a deep losing position.

Look for this company to trade in single digits before too long. Of course, this is my own opinion which doesn't contain significant errors like your exaggeration of FCO's market cap by 100 percent....

By the way...is this company earning any money? Has it ever? It looks like a penny stock promoter's dream stock...kinda' sorta'...NOT!

    • When Red China, the Green Olympics, and the Yellow River Collide [view article]
"Self-righteous&q... forgets that the student bravely facing down the tanks in Tianamen Square was never heard from again...nor were those students crushed to death by the same tank squadrons.

Sooner or later as rank and file Chinese enjoy the fruits of their capitalist labors, that lingering memory of brave students will ignite the growing clamor for more personal rights and liberty. Hopefully, the ruling party will see the wisdom in listening to the people from whom their true political power is derived. It will become an anachronism in a couple of more decades, I think, unless it evolves, too. Change from its current system of governance is inevitable.

In the meantime, let's all watch China grow itself economically through its use of smart thinking and very hard work. I think the period from about 1992 until ???? will mark China's modern Golden Age. For an outside observer like me, this already is a remarkable period in geopolitical history, and I hope for the very best for all of China.

    • When Red China, the Green Olympics, and the Yellow River Collide [view article]
I am amazed at the ethnocentricity and veiled threats made by some Easterners when confronting frank appraisals of their circumstances. China's centralized system of government will not stand the tests of capitalism combined with the growing demand for liberty. These conflicts may create bigger problems for China than the West faces in coming decades unless China's central government yields to the desires of its people. How about that, Mr. Chen?

In the meantime, let's all agree that China is a great place to invest until such time as civil war erupts. (Okay, I agree that I'm stretching it here....)

      Interesting article....

My thought is that we are watching the collision between communism and capitalism, and that with time, capitalism will win. The Olympics are good for the average Chinese citizen. They will mix with folks who do not suffer from a true lack of rights.

As the Chinese middle class grows and becomes educated, they will want the same liberties that others enjoy to compliment their growing wealth.

Everything takes time. Give it another couple of decades, and perhaps we might see China evolve into the world's foremost democracy while the U.S. evolves into a second tier socialist state.

      Who knows today?

Again, I think it was a good article highlighting issues that China faces. It offers good food for thought.

The prior poster indicates that China is a great place to invest. It is at that. Tumult breeds opportunity.

    • ShengdaTech: Chinese Smallcap That Might Be Worth the Risks [view article]
Your article failed to mention SDTH's acquisition of a SOE fertilizer company which will effectively triple SDTH's revenue and be immediately accretive to earnings. This is where a major portion of the funds from SDTH's recent preferred stock issuance are being spent. Most of the remaining balance of those funds is being spent to increase production facilities for its NPCC. Note that SDTH cannot meet the increasing demand for NPCC even with the increased production. It looks like its days of negative cash flow may be nearing their end.

While you mention that SDTH has a great leader in Mr. Chen, which is correct, you should also be made aware that SDTH's CFO is extremely good. SDTH's numbers are extremely transparent which is unusual for a Chinese company.

Finally, if you look at the moves made by SDTH in the last year, they are reminiscent of the same moves made by RIO in its nascent stage about seven years ago.

And, yes, I am long SDTH. There is no wonder "why", is there?

    • Chinese Companies Need Stable Capital [view article]
Is China not raising capital by selling its SOEs to companies which raise capital in American capital markets? Look at SDTH's pending acquisition of a state owned fertilizer company for example. And, are there not dozens of such examples? It looks like China is selling these SOE's as it evolves towards its own unique version of capitalism.... Jul 30 08:28 PM
    • China: American-style vs Latin-American-style Crises [view article]
Your final paragraph is the most worrisome. Inflation is already at 8 percent. What sort of percentage rise in inflation would you deem is "signicant"? .5 percent? 5 percent? And, how long is the period of time between when bank withdrawals actually occur and when they are recorded and publicly reported?

I read and enjoy all of your pieces here. Do I sense that you consider China to be nearing some sort of a precipice that requires more timely and direct action than "tinkering"?

I just want to point out that when the above article was published, the share price was at least $1.70. It closed today at $1.11. • Homebuilder Legal Issues [Housing Tracker] [view article]
Home builders and their subcontractors have been buried in construction defect litigation since 1980 where it originated in San Diego County, CA. The plague swept across Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and points east. It bankrupted builders, contractors, and even some of their insurance carriers.

The litigation that you outlined above is very minor when compared with the tsunami that swamped the industry. Today, home builders have adapted to their litigation environment, and those pieces of litigation mean little. They know how to handle them now.

    • When and Where to Go in China [view article]
If you are just going to get one China stock, make it SDTH at its current price level. Strong numbers....and numbers will get stronger! Transparent financials. Really smart CFO. Just did an offering and raised $100 million for an acquisition and production capacity increase....

And...the company does exactly what it says it will do...faster than its shareholders expect. Due your own due diligence, but you will discover all that I said above is true. And yes, I am long on this one....
