Welcome to your Financial Halloween! [View article]
I think you need to just sit and think happy thoughts for a while....
While it isn't good, this is no worldwide depression. It is also a good time to start taking positions in any world class stocks that you've had your eye on.
You can't pick market tops or market bottoms with certainty...but the market bottom is probably around here somewhere....
Chinese Companies Need Stable Capital [View article]
Is China not raising capital by selling its SOEs to companies which raise capital in American capital markets? Look at SDTH's pending acquisition of a state owned fertilizer company for example. And, are there not dozens of such examples? It looks like China is selling these SOE's as it evolves towards its own unique version of capitalism....
China: American-style vs Latin-American-style Crises [View article]
Your final paragraph is the most worrisome. Inflation is already at 8 percent. What sort of percentage rise in inflation would you deem is "signicant"? .5 percent? 5 percent? And, how long is the period of time between when bank withdrawals actually occur and when they are recorded and publicly reported?
I read and enjoy all of your pieces here. Do I sense that you consider China to be nearing some sort of a precipice that requires more timely and direct action than "tinkering"?
If you are just going to get one China stock, make it SDTH at its current price level. Strong numbers....and numbers will get stronger! Transparent financials. Really smart CFO. Just did an offering and raised $100 million for an acquisition and production capacity increase....
And...the company does exactly what it says it will do...faster than its shareholders expect. Due your own due diligence, but you will discover all that I said above is true. And yes, I am long on this one....
Considerations on Investing in China [View article]
It's time to get over it...things change. I invest only in China companies which do trumpet transparency, GAAP standards, and western corporate governance standards. They are there. You just have to do your homework....

John, Chinesepetti is like an internet stalker. I found him bashing Michael Pettis in the comment section of a completely unrelated article by a different author on this website...so I just had to see what he had written under Pettis' latest article....
He's good for a laugh!!!! :)
I find it remarkable that he is incapable of tolerating a commentary on China's economic system. Perhaps when he next visits San Francisco he can partake of the use of a public library, or perhaps enjoy full and unfettered access to the internet to better educate himself....
For the record, this was another perceptive article by Mr. Pettis....
Waiting for the Great Wall of Chinese Liquidity [View article]
I agree with User 132047. Chinese companies listed for trading in U.S. markets offer an additional avenue of investment and liquidity for newly enfranchised Chinese investors. I would expect these Chinese companies, in general, to be impacted more by this change than their wholly American counterparts. By the way, I enjoy your blogs a great deal. I find them very useful.
