  • Heart defects in Gulf of Mexico tuna seen tied to 2010 BP oil spill [View news story]
The Gulf of Mexico areas that drilling occurs in was disgusting before the spill, IMO. I stopped swimming in the waters on the Texas side years ago; I'd come out too "oily" and that was well before the BP spill. Hate to tell ya, but there was already oil in the water before the BP spill. Do these scientists actually think that oil hasn't been leaking into the gulf for years? Give me a break.

I'd be interested to know how this study narrowed down the cause for the heart defects in tuna to the BP spill (as suggested in this breaking news update). Sounds more like a study performed by a overly biased environmental group eager to heap the blame on big oil.

30% decrease in mid mngt w/ 40% increase duties & responsibilities

  • Bitcoin plunges as Mt. Gox halts withdrawals [View news story]
I'll be glad when Bitcoin finally dies off. It's ridiculous. But, I have enjoyed some perks in my stocks that sell GPU's and hardware for tech heads to go mining for it. There's your first clue that bitcoins are a joke...nothing of value is free. What's that about? You can not establish trade with something so volatile. The whole idea of secret transactions and money without inflation is child-like thinking. First, why worry about someone knowing if you bought a book at the store or a cheeseburger at McD's? How would bitcoins make any difference here except the fact that the bitcoin itself fluctuates so much that a business couldn't afford to hold it very long in fear that it might bottom out. And as far as the anti-inflation concept associated with bitcoin goes...look at the value of bitcoin itself. $1 = $100, now $200, oh no...$400, $ just keeps inflating. Why? IDK. Apparently there's a growing nerd herd that fears they'll be left out with no bitcoins to buy comic books in the near future.

BitcoinS will be remembered as the BS currency that failed.

  • Xinyuan Real Estate: 5 Things You Should Know Before You Buy [View article]
Good to see an article on XIN, but it appears to be the same old story: undervalued, low p/e, china housing bubble, CFO issues...etc, etc. The one point I do agree with is that they don't do much in the way of PR. The American investor loves seeing PR daily; it's a sell the news market and screw fundamentals in most cases. As far as ADR fees, I don't notice them that much...I hold BP stock too. Dividends seem to flow in just fine for me, but I'm investing for growth. I guess if I wanted high dividends for income then I'd put money back in PMT or AGNC maybe...but that's just me.

But, why is there no mention of the development in New York that's in the works? Is that too positive? Does it discount the fraud rumors that surround this Chinese stock? If XIN is a fraud then the management team gets an A+ for effort and money spent to pull of the biggest, slowest scam of all time. 5 years and still sitting at the same price roughly. Better than many American companies that I've invested in over time.

I'll be staying with XIN and adding more on the current market dip, but thanks for writing to remind us of the same rumors and concerns that have bogged down this stock for 5 years now.
