I've been renting in Pinellas County, Florida while waiting out the bubble, and my own landlord is walking away from his financing. I went onto RealtyTrax to see if the status was posted and saw that literally hundreds of houses within a mile radius of mine are in pre-foreclosure/bank-o... status. The man working behind the counter in my local deli was bemoaning the fact that his zero-down mortgage means that he now owes $225K on a house currently valued at $150K. Identical townhouses in the same complex are for sale anywhere between $199K and $399K, for units that were selling at $500K at the height of the bubble but for $179 six years ago. Many of those on the market at higher prices show outstanding loan amounts well in excess of market value.
