FYI ... both AAPL and GOOG are off 51% YTD, and AAPL showed solid upside today when the market was barfing. i think if you do your homework you'll realize that AAPL is significantly undervalued at current levels and the forthcoming laptops & earnings will push the shares up at least 25% over the next month.

zach i think you're wrong on this ... there's upside to AAPL post earnings this time around, if there is a drop i think there will be a quick recovery and a volatile but definite upward trend over the next few months relative to rest of the market. there will be a point soon where money flows back into those companies which are best positioned to come out of this crisis stronger than their peers, AAPL is one of those.

hardware will certainly become smarter with more robust and feature rich firmware, but the OS layer will never go away. there has to be a software layer which holds it all together, along with the API abstractions which allow developers to easily create compelling applications.

the concept of "cloud computing" is simply the new buzzword for server-centric applications. virtualization services like amazon s3 and ec3 are enablers of these kinds of applications by making them cheaper to deploy than renting enterprise class capacity and interconnectivity from a provider like at&t. a big part of what at&t is offering seems to compete at least partly with akamai.

near term AAPL will be volatile due to the larger market, short term traders, and coverage like cramer's ... but APPL will very quickly build a base and continue to climb, they have a number catalysts in place now for massive growth. don't bother with cramer, do your own research. he's not always right about these things - like his thoughts on bear stearns ;-)
