  • Is Netflix the Next Apple? [View article]
I doubt nflx is going unnoticed by the cable company, I believe it was about 6 months ago I heard about the cable company doing a pilot program to charge more for people using high amounts of gigs i.e. people watching content not just surfing the net. They stated it was slowing down their service for everyone, I'm no engineer but I doubt it. Cable should be keenly aware of their coming obsolescence if they don't change. They could be relegated to an infrastructure play if they're not careful.

  • Seeking Recession Resistant Web Companies [View article]
I like your article and I agree with the nflx analysis. The only thing I would add is being that we are in a defensive environment nflx pe may be a bit too rich. I think their subscription numbers stay in line, but, what are they spending to retain them. They add more content everyday, but, at what price? If they can increase subs to match they are fine. They are not exceptionally rich in pe, but, in this environment everyone is scared of their shadow. They need to clear their hurdle when they report or see a pe multiple shrinkage imho. I am long nflx with a long term position, but, have since hedged by buying puts to sell in a couple of months. I love this company, but, right now the pressures on and they have to come through to stay where they are at imho. They are a grower and don't offer a dividend so they have to keep growing to keep everyone happy. After earnings next week may be a good time to buy.

  • Netflix May Dominate The Online Video World, But With What Business Model? [View article]
aapl tv has more in common with the on demand programming offered by cable. They are both pay per view. If you like paying four bucks just to watch a movie then the previous is fine, but, my family watches a lot of movies and this would bankrupt me, long nflx. Also, cost of aapl box $229 I believe, you don't need the roku box unless you want it, I stream off my pc. I agree the content is an expensive gamble, but, the library has grown exponentially. I think big content will mean a lot to the likes of microsoft, I see the past actions of msft as flirtation, possibly we will see consummation? It would give a viable platform to compete with apple in a new emerging battlefield.

This issue (who gets paid what on a download) was at the heart of the writers strike. This article is right on, the future is here. It's the beginning of the end of dvds.
