Oh yeah, and using nflx and bbi in the same sentence isn't cool. nflx is a stock, bbi is something that should be put in a paper bag, lit on fire, and put on someones doorstep.
My local redbox is usually surrounded by woodchucks and techneandrethals. That population is contracting from what I can see. Nflx is a solid performer, imho there are still new subscribers (growth) to be had. Those subscribers may just cost more to get. nflx has already threatened share buyback with some of that 6$ a share in cash if they get cheap again. A real headwind from what I can see is the broadband cable putting a squeeze on bandwidth users to fund their lagging cable unit. I doubt you will see nflx at a 15 multiple anytime soon. This is a growth player and definitely not a value play, be careful when you fly with Icaurus.
I doubt nflx is going unnoticed by the cable company, I believe it was about 6 months ago I heard about the cable company doing a pilot program to charge more for people using high amounts of gigs i.e. people watching content not just surfing the net. They stated it was slowing down their service for everyone, I'm no engineer but I doubt it. Cable should be keenly aware of their coming obsolescence if they don't change. They could be relegated to an infrastructure play if they're not careful.

bbi hasn't been legitimate competition for nflx for some time now. nflx has graduated to a new set of competitors, ones that are more on par for this well run company. The competition is now vudu hulu aapl and other internet media companies. This should scare cable into changing their model before they become an infrastructure play. long nflx, short nflx puts

oh yeah, long nflx I own a small position about as much as a months groceries, but, I love their service. Imagine that, a company that actually makes customers happy and turns a profit.

How about a profit margin number for bbi instead of revenue. How much profit are they spending keeping up their little strip mall stores. Oh, and earlier in this thread their stores were supposed to be an asset, but, now kiosks are the way? It's one or the other. BTW when I put yet to be released movies in my queue I usually have them the day of the release, so much for your "oldflix" idea. I Like the service so much I cancelled cable. My subscription is also cheaper than bbi's online offer.

I find bbi's brick&mortar stance to be a real hindrance than a positive. People aren't afraid of their computers anymore. While on bbi's balance sheet these buildngs probably look like solid gold assets, they are money pits that become ever more worthless in the strip mall landscape.

Funny, I see the exact opposite out of nflx than what dvdfan sees. I personally have had a nearly seamless renting experience with nflx, I cancelled my bbi online due to their lack of hard to find titles. The instore swap was nice with bbi until they imposed multiple restrictions which was a main reason why I left a year ago. I do not own a roku box, I stream content from my pc to my tv and it has been fabulous. Direct from the last nflx quarterly report, the redbox is going to deal a more significant blow to the likes of bbi than nflx (summarized). To the author you think redbox

This issue (who gets paid what on a download) was at the heart of the writers strike. This article is right on, the future is here. It's the beginning of the end of dvds.
The Contrast Between Blockbuster and Netflix [View article]
people with foresight can realize that the next natural step is downloadable content straight to your livingroom. The dvd makers probably wont go hungry for a few more years. An interesting look into the future came at the expense of the writers strike, writers were highly concerned about the royalties for online content. This was the butt of a lot of jokes by the comedians covering this. Joking about worrying about the royalties on reruns of 30rock and the office. The cable industry must change or die because behind the technical jibberish is a fundamental change. When you have cable they tell you when you are going to watch your show unless you have a dvr even then you are told when you can record this show. Online content will allow the user to access what they desire instantly. Yes the netflix plan is a little campy, but, its a good start. I must admit I'm long nflx and a supersatisfied customer. I basically see this space or sector as the next battleground of the clash of the titans msft vs aapl. With significant m&a of people who have some semblance of a clue in the pioneering end of the development. aapl is already in this space and msft likes to buy into spaces with their cash from qdos all the way to yhoo. Without foresight we would be waxing poetically about the awesome 8 track player we used to have.
