  • Maybe the Droid Launch Wasn't So Bad After All [View article]
Jason, there's tons of cell phone users coming up on their 2-year mark; making the switch to smartphones. So I would assume Android, Blackberry, Palm, Iphone, etc... will all get their share. Until we see high #'s of Iphone or BB users giving up their smartphones for Androids, then I think the Android is just another "me-too" copycat, IMHO.

  • Research In Motion: Still the Best Positioned Smartphones Play [View article]
Sorry for posting an older comparison - my bad - there were quite a few hits. I was actually looking for whole companies making the switch & didn't find any. If that happens, then I think BB's demise may happen. However, between the $1.2 bill stock buyback; positive sales projections on last earnings call; huge installed customer base; Storm 2; and superior security features, I think the more probable scenario is that RIMM grows; just at a much slower pace than the Iphone.

Here's a review from a BB user who tried going w/ the iphone. I think this shows why BB's extensive user base is not going anywhere anytime soon:

Andrew, I agree. From a personal level, I don’t know of too many people whose companies have switched from Blackberry to the iphone, android, or any thing else.

I know in my company, security is #1 priority. BB does it all & is the most secure; so we're not switching. However, if anyone knows of a company that is switching off the Blackberry, please indicate how many users & the reason why. Thanks.

  • Why Android Is Gaining Ground on Apple [View article]
My understanding is that Research in Motion’s Blackberry is the still best choice for business. With the BB, companies can manage the device, e.g., wipe the data clean if the smartphone is lost. RIMM’s Blackberry Enterprise Server, which syncs up with theMSFT Outlook server, just can’t be matched by ipod, android or any of the other platforms. Given that security and privacy issues are the top concerns for business, am I correct that companies won’t start replacing Blackberrys with Androids anytime soon?

  • Careless in the Cloud: Google Accidentally Shares Some Docs [View article]
The data leakage seems pretty benign & hardly worth the news release. The risk of info being shared is very remote. Besides, it would have been with a former person w/ rights; not with a wider reader base.

Jason, don't u think your post is a bit misleading? Seems like the settings went back to an earlier date. Docs were not shared with others who didn't have sharing priveleges before.

I'm surprised Yahoo's search % went down. Yahoo search is very user-friendly and returns great results.

  • E*Trade: The Changing Face of Internet Advertising [View article]
Judy, all good points. I think E-trade is so overspending on advertising it borders on the obscene. Per Etrade’s latest release, they spent a staggering $175.3 mill on advertising & marketing in 2008. That’s even higher than the $138.7 mill they spent the year before. Granted, E-trade is experiencing record growth. However, E-trade is also recognized as having one of the best trading platforms; which doesn’t ever seem to go down when others - such as TD Ameritrade & Schwab - are having problems. In summary, I think E-trade can seriously ratchet down spending. Their product & word of mouth will more than bring customers to them.

  • The Times Made Up That Stuff About Google and the Tea Kettles [View article]
Jason, great catch. Thanks. By the way, the NY Times is considered by most informed people to be a moutpiece for the Democrats, very liberal, and very untrustworthy.

  • Has Stagnating Innovation Led to This Economic Crisis? [View article]
Mr. Maher, are u for real? You say "our internet age owes its existence to US government research investment" - c'mon - if u said Bill Gates, Intel, etc... you'd be close, but the US Gov't? u can't be serious. Otherwise, a good article.
