Google Results Something to Cheer About [View article]
Good numbers from Google. Nothing earth shattering but also nothing to be excited about. They made their numbers by paying less taxes.
The question is how will Google frow the search business in a recession/depression during the next phase of the interesting day and age in which we reside.
Today would have been the best day to own the stock and yet the gain for the day was very modest.
The posting above sounds like someone who has a vested interest in Google stock. I am niether long or short at this time, but have been both long and short in the past.
This market is way to wild to be predicting anything short or medium term.
Google stock is very risky if you didn't purchase prior to January 2005.
Google has only one stream of verifiable revenue. Google has only one stream of verifiable profits.
I purchased Google stock in September 2004 and sold in December 2007. I have been shorting the stock ever since.
Google has serious problems in selling their "business applications" into both small businesses as well as larger enterprises. Other than the former Postini, all other Google business applications have been a resounding flop in the marketplace.
Google is that one trick pony and therefore not a good stock to own, at least at these levels.
Google wants to compete with MSFT in the business application marketpace with Google Apps (GA) and Google Message Security (GMS).
GMS, the former Postini, is a formitable, reliable, safe, and secure email security service that boasts business users such as Starbucks, UBS, Merrill Lynch and tens of thousands of small and large businesses.
GA wants to compete with MSFT in word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration. Here, GA has zero value as well over 90% of organizations who actually use GA use the FREE version.
GA is a nice thought, but is marketed by a Google division that is run by a bunch of preppy looking and slick talking dudes who have no idea what customers want as they never talk with their business or channel partners.
3 Stocks That Are Begging To Be Bought [View article]
Google stock ain't going up for a long time! The $700 price a few months ago may never get to those levels again.
The problem with Google is they have one source of revenue and one stream of profits and Wall street knows there is only so much you can do with a one trick pony.
All of the other projects that Google has going on today, don't amount to 1% of either revenues or profits, according to the most recent 10-Q report filed by Google after last quarter's profit announcement.
Google stock will never get to $1000 per share unless and until Google Apps, YouTube, etc can generate 5-10-20 percent of revenues and profits at Google.
The problem with search is that Google owns the ecosystem and nobody outside of Google has a say in what happens within that ecosytem. Evil?, maybe...maybe not!
Yahoo Further Explains Tie-up With Google [View article]
Any business organizations who wish to work together and end up with 90% market share needs to be scrutinized. Google is not just a company, but an ecosystem that only Google can control. The marketplace doesn't set prices of ads...Google sets those prices with their complex algorythms.
Google Clarifies: Search Isn't Almost Done [View article]
This article sums up why Google will never be a great software company. Google is an ADVERTISING company. Millions of small and large businesses will never purchase mission critical business applications from an ADVERTISING company.
Can someone please identify a financially successful Google operation that is NOT search related? 95% of Google Apps users pay NOTHING for the service. The price/value for Google Apps is ZERO!
There isn't a viable business ANYWHERE that can go very long in any market without generating revenue and profits. If you think Google can subsidize ALL other product areas forever, you are misguided (see Google's current sucky stock valuation).
American businesses, both large and small, are NOT flocking to Google's non-search related products and services. Businesses typically don't use FREE products. WHY? Because there is zero perceived value in a business application that is FREE!
So what if SalesForce is now pimping Google Apps into corporations? Nobody is BUYING Google Apps because there is a FREE version available.

Diane Mermigas buys into all of Google's hype.
I say look at what Google has done with the many in house and acquisitions and see if they have the people on board who can actually execute a business plan.
Name a Google product or service, other than search, that is generating revenue substantial enough to actually have a material affect to Google's top line!
In Google's own 10Q report from last quarter, Google Apps and all other products and services are way less than 1% of Google's total revenues.
This is after Google swallowed up Postini that had 2007 rev of close to $100M. Postini is now Google Message Security (terrible name) and now only brings in $50M of revenue.
Google's New Enterprise Video Not a True Business Offering [View article]
Dave Girouard and Matthew Glotzbach both spend nights praying their Google Enterprise divsion can actually generate real revenues and profit, soon. Google Apps has failed miserably due to no advertising, weak service, and no telephone technical support.
Why does Google not post telephone technical support and customer service phone numbers on their web site?
When does the Deptartment of Justice look into questions of monopoly? What market share does GOOG need to have to prompt an investigation? 65 %....no. 75%...closer! 80%...very close. 85% or more...yes!
Personally, I think Google search has earned every percentage of market share they receive.
But search still funds all other Google operations because they can't make profits on anything else.
Could Google Buy The New York Times? [View article]
The NYTimes is the number ONE source of news links that appear at the top of Da Drudge Report. They may be maliaigned, but everyone who is anyone smart reads the NYTimes as part of their day. I choose online M-Sat and purchase a Sunday paper at the coffeeshop. Nothing better on Sunday's than reading the Magazine and Week in Review sections.
Google will dominate search probably for the balance of my natural life and may one day be the search engine of choice for 90% of search users.
The question is can Google make inroads in other areas of business life that can be monitized and generate bottom line results?
So far, the answer to that question is no!
Google seems to not be able to make Google Apps pay for itself. Maybe some good old fashioned marketing would help here, but then again Googler's are way toooo smart (HA!) to do anything that is even remotely considered old school.
What about YouTube? Google can't seem to monitize that aquistion.
What about Postini? Google has totally destroyed a healthy and growing revenue and customer base by doing things that a first year marketing student in college would never do.
Google is today, and is destined to be for the next few years, a one trick dog. Search is their game and they are the best.

I just ran an NS LOOKUP for ge.com, which is the mail domain for General Electric.
There is no evidence that GE is using Postini email service as quoted above by Google executives. 300K users yet no MX record of ge.com is actually pointed to Postini's scanners!
Is Online Search Microsoft's Vietnam War? [View article]
Microsoft has lost the search war(s) to Google. The larger battle between the two giants is not search but the desktop, via word processing, spreadsheets, et al.
In the war of the desktop, Google is at a disadvantage in a bunch of way via Google Apps. The folks at Google have given hundreds of thousands of FREE versions of Google Apps and now most firms won't pay money for the service.
The worst part in the war of the desktop for Google is they suck at customer service because Google doesn't like talking to people. Just try and find ANY customer service phone number for Google on their web site.
There is no published customer service phone number for Google.
There isn't a software company with at least $10M in sales that doesn't publish tech support and customer support phone numbers on their web site.
Google also screwed the handsome revenue stream of Postini, an aquisition made just one year ago.
Google may own search, but they suck at making $$ on everything else.
Google may have the brightest people on the planet within their search team, but Google Enterprise is managed by a bunch of idiots.
