The 'slim to none' chance of passage is small consolation. The same transaction fee shows up again in the National Health Care Act bill (HR 676, i think). Once our elected (one must not forget) officials get this stuff seeded in their alleged brains, it is hard to stamp out, and impossible to stamp out without someone protesting.
Just a rookie here, but does book value include 'goodwill'? If so, should a company liquidate, is there any 'goodwill' asset to distribute? E.G., Micro$oft has a jubongous amount of 'goodwill' on its books. How does it figure in the Price to Book computation?

How do you compare a company with zilch assets like Lehman to a company with a trillion in assets like AIG? The size of the load to the amount of assets seems pretty ordinary to me. I have been wrong in the past, however.
Good points, Phil. I sometimes think that the anonymity of the internet identity acts like the anonymity of drivers in a car. Somehow, it brings out something negative in people. Be proud of your thick skin- some of us admire it!!
