      Someone asked why not $55k per year instead of $100k+ per year. It costs Genentech between $500M and $800M to get a drug approved. Genentech then only has a limited time as patent owner before the generics can move in to make their versions. Genentech must also fund future research so they have new products. Genentech is a growth stock, not a dividend stock, and applies profits to further research.
