Monsanto: New Corn Seed Helping to Trim Refuge Requirements [View article]
One more impressive advancement available for farmers from Monsanto! In the meantime the big bosses and lobbyists for Monsanto's nearest rival, DuPont's troubled Pioneer Not-So-High-Bred, Int'l are screaming "Monopoly! Monopoly! Unfair! Unfair!" Their unethical misconduct and that of their "masked" third-party operatives shows a desperation to conceal DuPont's mediocrity and serial misfirings in the agricultural arena. ...funfun..
Market Not Recognizing Significance of Dow Ag [View article]
Strange as it may be, many investors seem to be stuck in the last century when it comes to Dow and its now much shrunken competitor, the DuPont Company. In the past decade, Dow has expanded and grown with vigour; DuPont has declined and shrivelled dramatically.
The fact is Dow is twice the size of the diminished DuPont in revenues and assets, three times the size by stockholder equity. Dow AgroSciences has been managed successfully; DuPont's troubled AG & NUT "platform" admitted last Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 DuPont's attempt to develop and commercialise a timely FIRST-generation GM seed trait to compete with Monsanto has BOMBED.
For the record, the undersigned holds shares in DOW and MON, and has no position long or short in DD.
DuPont's evasive and accountability-dodging execs finally admitted today in an official DuPont PRESS RELEASE, "DuPont Updates Its Commercialization Timelines...," 8:00 am EST, Dec. 4, 2009, troubled Optimum®GAP® for corn and soya will not be on the shelves commercially for farmers until the earliest, "the middle of the next decade". This fumbling and misfiring by DuPont and Pioneer Management is a significant negative. ...funfun..
In the way of history, SmartStax developed by industry leader Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences is a SECOND-generation genetically modified seed product. DuPont's first key and clumsy effort to develop and commercialise its FIRST-generation GM seed trait has been pretty much of a flop to date. Long-hyped by DuPont Management for years, the trait, parodically called Optimum®GAP® from the perspective of Monsanto shareholders, cannot be used on a stand-alone basis without "risk" to farmers according to the belated admission a few months ago by DuPont's customarily secretive executives. ...funfun..
The much shrunken DuPont Company as it continues to decline is beginning to look more and more like the General Motors of chemicals!
Both of these one-time mammoth industry leaders (GM was the largest motor company in the world; DuPont, the largest chemical company for most of the past century) suffered for decades from misfiring and mismanaging marginal leaders.
Wow! DuPont which formerly was the largest, and unquestioned leader in the chemical industry has plunged from number one to number eight in the course of a single decade. This dramatic shrinkage was driven by a misfiring and stunningly mediocre Management!
In sharp contrast, BASF and Dow, first and second largest respectively, continue to grow robustly while DuPont continues to shrivel and retreat. DuPont's expected sales for the full year 2009 are projected at an anemic $26 billion. ...funfun..
Dow/Monsanto's New Corn: Latest Data [View article]
SmartStax will leave DuPont's struggling seed house, Pioneer Hi-Bred Int'l further behind on the highway of innovation. DuPont's first major effort at developing and commercialising a genetically modified seed trail, parodically called OptimumGAP, cannot be used on a stand-alone basis "without risk"!
Dow Drops a Bombshell; Turns in Profit [View article]
While Dow Ag Sciences reported a robust increase in volume of 10% for Q1 2009, in contrast DuPont AG & NUT containing Pioneer Hi-Bred Int'l eked out only a 1% increase in volume under the same global market conditions. Very telling. ...funfun..
Dow Drops a Bombshell; Turns in Profit [View article]
No doubt about it: Superior-managed Monsanto and Dow Ag are going to do great damage to the lumbering DuPont AG & NUT bureaucracy which contains the long R & D-underfunded mid-western Pioneer seed house, subjugated and misdirected by the arrogant and agriculturally ignorant big DuPont bosses in Fortress Wilmington for a decade!

Dividends or No Dividends, That Is the Question [View article]
The marginal Management of the increasingly cash-stressed DuPont Company will be forced to slash the dividend of $1.64 yearly in my opinion. Not only have the Company's earnings not covered the quarterly payout for one-half year (Q3 and Q4, 2008), but DuPont faces a looming BIG BLACK HOLE of disappearing earnings. Over $1 billion yearly in Pharma PTOI will begin to vanish with the expiration of patents on two drugs, Cozaar and Hyzaar, the only assets left in the phased-out DuPont Pharma platform. ...funfun..
What DuPont's secretive bosses rarely mention in public is the looming BIG BLACK HOLE in Pharma earnings. Over $1 billion in yearly Pharma pre-tax operating income will soon disappear forever as the patents on two drugs, Cozaar and Hyzaar expire. These drugs are the only assets of the Company's phased-out and fading Pharma business segment, the only segment which showed an increase in PTOI in 4Q 2008, year over year.
The huge yearly loss of over $1 billion in PTOI from Pharma will put enormous pressure on the DuPont dividend, which currently at a yearly rate of $1.64 per share results in an annual cash outflow of $1.5 billion. The dividend must and will be cut in my humble opinion. ...funfun..
Dow: Best Case Is for Both Deals to Get Done [View article]
Todd Sullivan,
Well analysed size-up of the situation!
Dow as second largest chemical enterprise in the world, with BASF number one, has substantial resources and appears to be very modestly valued for an eventual global economic recovery. ...funfun..
Dow Chemical is a good long-term candidate for patient DRIP fans. Dow is well managed, growing, and now twice as large as its much shrunken and weakened chemical rival, the DuPont Company. ...funfun..
Cramer's Mad Money - Who Wants Dupont? (12/18/08) [View article]
DuPont has been in a dramatic freefall for over a decade. The same bumbling marginal Management remains intractably embedded, and offers little hope for reversal.
What Management seldom mentions publicly: a looming BIG BLACK HOLE of disappearing earnings. Circa $1 billion in yearly Pharma PTOI will soon begin to vanish with the sure and certain expiration of two DuPont drug patents, Cozaar & Hyzaar, the only assets left in DuPont's faded and phased-out pharma business! ...funfun..
Chemical Companies' Outlook: Who's Right? [View article]
Despite some retrenchment, Dow Chemical remains the number two chemical enterprise in the world by revenues, with BASF, number one. In contrast, the much shrunken and decaying DuPont Company has fallen precipitously in a single decade down from first to ninth.
