Do you still think LORL will eventually be taken out around $80? You had mentioned this when the shares were at 65, they're currently at 33.

But again, the entire LOI is non binding. Hefei has not actually agreed to make any of these payments, or buy the shares. They say they intend to finalize everything by December, but its entirely possible Hefei just walks from the deal (since it's non binding) and makes no further payments at all.

If in december Hefei actually agrees to the terms, then it seems they will buy shares At 10 and a bit, and set up some milestones at levels to be determined.

The letter of intent is non binding, and what are the milestones that are required to earn the $50mm? Hefei isn't just writing a check on day 1.

    Are you also shorting Konecranes?

If you like the underlying this makes sense but unless you short Konecranes, you have full exposure to market moves in addition to risk of the deal falling apart. Puts will not protect you if Konecranes share price declines (fwiw TEX is down 18% this year, and 38% in the last 12 months, which would have more than wiped out the merger spread).

Brad, an interesting point is the advantage they offer in their dividend reinvestment program. They give a 5% share price reduction, which effectively boost the yield a bit. I haven't done research into which other reits have a similar program, but it's definitely a benefit.

  • A Textbook Model Of Dividend Predictability  [View article]
The nice thing about reits like O are they help small investors deal with their emotions, and buy low/sell high. If you have confidence in the dividend stream and set a goal of " I will buy when the yield on O is 5%" or whatever your hurdle rate is, it helps you emotionally if the stock price drops, and gives you the discipline to wait for a nice level if the stock rises a lot. That way you avoid chasing performance/momentum which can get you in trouble in other sectors.

Brad, out of curiosity do you tend to look at the current dividend of a reit like O as representing the "real" return, and assume share price appreciation will compensate for inflation, or is that too simplistic?

When do you think the A's get called? I think they just need to give 30 days notice, not wait until the next dividend date. Would expect it soon.

Looks like the A's are going to be called, by the next dividend date at least, I'd think.

to get exposure to VIX, you need to buy/sell futures, then wait till the future rolls to spot, and repeat. If you are long VIX, you pay for the steepness in the roll, if short, you receive it. Thats why SVXY goes up as spot VIX stays flat...it's receiving the "roll yield".
