  • AMD Consecutively Sets 52-Week Lows - Should You Buy? [View article]
It will be cheaper to pay Nvidia royalty than buying AMD

  • XBox One Sales Boost A Catalyst For AMD [View article]
Stop relying on consoles. Consoles are out for more than a year now. All the hypes from consoles are priced into stock back in April 2013. Now AMD investors have to think about what is next for AMD.

Is ARM server Seattle picking up pace?
Will 390X compete well against upcoming 980Ti(or Titan whatever it maybe called)
How about GPU for server market? Does AMD have answer to Nvidia's Tesla and NVlink?
Does AMD's upcoming ARM core have chance against next generation Tegra and low power Intel core?

Talking about console sales is useless. It is well known old story.

Are you saying that Titan won't come out till TSMC has 16nm?

And remember 290x was actually very good graphic card, beating Nvidia in terms of performance and there was big demand due to coin mining frenzy but then it was not really a game changer. Stock keeps declining. What AMD investors really should worry about is lack of progress in ARM server core Seattle. There is absolutely no news about this lately. The final product(not engineering sample nor developer kit) is suppose to be shipping to customers by end of this year.

980TI(or Titan) will have 50% more cuda cores than 980 does with faster memory. So I expect 30~50% performance increase from 980. That will match well with 390x.

    Selling/General/Admin. Expenses, Total
    Research & Development
    Depreciation/Amortization
    Interest Expense(Income) - Net Operating
    Unusual Expense (Income)
    Other Operating Expenses, Total

These are the items under operating expenses and most of auto companies leave R&D blank

I know R&D is under operating expenses, but there are many sub categories under operating expenses. So where does R&D go into among this sub categories? Selling, General and Administrative?

Just a question. When I look at financial statements of auto companies, their research and development cost is zero or left it blank. I am sure they spend lot of $$ on R&D but why do they state it zero or leave it blank? Anybody can explain?

    Sandisanmina

One of them is ARM based so it is a new business but 1 billion total over 3 years sure is not a game changer...

Fib is right. Rory said console chip sales from AMD reached pick at Q3. AMD ships parts to Sony and MS in Q3 so that they can built and sell in Q4 at retail stores.

Companies mentioned above are mostly making notebooks so whoever wrote the article is thinking wrong.

Just saw AMCC ER. It seems like their ARM server CPU is not gaining at all...seding SP down to another -16%. It could be just their product or it could be that whole ARM ecosystem is not ready for server market. AMCC's ARM performance was on par with Atom so I guess its the whole ARM ecosystem that is not ready for server yet. This is bad news for AMD too because it is working on ARM server CPU as well.

After all, Samsung, Qualcomm and Nvidia's decision not to go into server market could prove to be wise decision.

  • 6 Reasons To Buy AMD On The Dip [View article]
Also to talk about where their products stand....
Most of Nvidia's revenue comes from selling just graphics cards whereas AMD's revenue is from both CPU and GPU. and Nvidia's annual revenue has been growing past 4 years.(This shows just how strong Nvidia's GPU business is)

Nvidia's CPU business(referring to Tegra brand) just started getting momentum. YoY sales of Tegra has increased more than 100% according to Nvidia's last press conference. Nvidia is 2 years ahead of ARM CPU going into PC territory compare to AMD. Nvidia's technology is ready and getting support from not just IT world but also automotive world. It signed partnership with 14 automotive companies). I like how they are diversifying.

What I also like about Tegra is its performance. My speculation is that once Tegra gets 20nm treatment, its performance will be very close to current low end to mid Intel processors with less or equal to 3W of TDP .(64bit Tegra K1 with 28nm is already beating very low end Haswell while consuming only 5W). I see this as just a step away from invading PC CPU territory.

AMD claims that their APU sales growing, embedded are growing this and that are growing...but at the end they say their revenue will be decreasing in next quarter, not just 1 or 2% but whopping 13%....

Tegra K1 has massive performance, even beats Apple's A8X by big margin in "SINGLE" core CPU test becuase of Dynamic Code Optimization.
