Retail Chain Store Sales Take a Dive

Chain store sales used to include the results of 80+ retailers, but now only 34 retailers still report monthly sales. The big difference this month, and the reason for the record drop is that Wal-Mart has decided to stop reporting monthly sales. If memory serves me correctly, chain store sales in April would have been down 3.0 if Walmart had been excluded. Therefore, May's number isn't good but not as draconian as it initially seems.
