Off topic but I thought a lot about your comment on how you bought Apple in the 80's and stayed long (hope I'm not missing anything). Really made me think, being under 30, and loving good companies at a good price, that there might be hope I will feel the joy someone feels when they have done well from years of owning an excellent company. I wonder if those results are attainable in the future with Apple now that it's no longer the scrappy upstart.

I think Apple will do amazing without Steve, but I do worry that you might see products come out that maybe aren't as good as they could have been. Situations where only Steve's temper would have got the end result. I hope not, and I doubt it, but it lingers a bit in my mind.

  • Apple: Does The Party End In 2015? [View article]
If you bought around $12, I just want to say, can you use your profits to build me a time machine? I will be forever grateful.

God, those gifts come around once in a while and if you miss them you miss them!

  • American Apparel execs call for Charney's return [View news story]
This worries me. I get that Dov is sort of that creative spark in the company, but he should not be the thing that makes it tick. What I think is, you have 30 managers that are so used to being micromanaged by Dov that they can't see the forest for the trees. Yes, Dov was a huge influence on the company, but he was also a huge liability. Retrench, embrace the new CEO and start marching in the same direction with the guiding light of values (minus the bad ones) Dov left behind.

I noticed that also. He goes from very professional to something like that.. makes me think there is a bit of personal hatred towards AAPL by the author.

  • Could Sony Hack Turn Into Buying Opportunity? [View article]
It's not unusual for a long running corporation to have silos, but in this day and age, against giants like Apple, there is no room for it. Sony needs to eliminate them, work as one P&L and leverage every strength into Apple beating devices and services. I'm long SNE and a big fan of their products (typing this from a Vaio that has never given me a hiccup) but I'm also realistic that they have to be focused and diligent to survive in this new world.

  • Could Sony Hack Turn Into Buying Opportunity? [View article]
I don't think in this particular instance that 3 years is enough. My thinking is that Sony is so divided, so stuck in its ways and such a silo'd mess that it will take 5 - 10 years to probably really get the culture to change.

Yep, I'm long SNE. Letting it sit and seeing where it falls. There is so much potential there and I think its a clear case of needing solid management to make it all work. So far, what I hear about Kaz and his new CFO, is that they seem to be the people for the job.

  • My Lessons Learned From Following Warren Buffett [View article]
Good article. I've started adding to my cash hoard recently because the market is really fueled. I'm hoping to follow the same principles, when people become fearful and things hit the brakes (they always do), I will use that cash hoard to fire away and buy good companies for cheap. It will pay off (especially since I am 40 years from retirement). Exciting times as always!
