  • Hershey: This Holding Could 'Sweeten' Your Portfolio Returns Over The Next 5 Years [View article]
HSY is a great investment if you can get it at a fair valuation. It won't come cheap. The underlying engine is fantastic and that is always priced into the stock it seems, but you won't regret it 30 years later!

Oh no, MCD is in Mr Market's bad side today. Big deal. I'll take the underlying economic engine in the next 30 years, thank you. Mr Market can go eat an under cooked burger.

  • Is Apple More Vulnerable Than Microsoft To Trends In Mobile? Probably [View article]
Well, there goes the rumours about the missing MB. He's back!

And I like the "In my opinion" about the S6 leading in quality, reliability and processing power. On your journey away, we learned the iPhone 6 still hauls butt in processing power. Don't even bother trying to question who will lead in quality and reliability. iPhone has no competition there.

Judging but how public sector finances are going, at least where I am, those pensions might be in danger. I can't imagine how my province will pay for anything, we are pretty broke (Ontario).

It's slow and steady no matter how you look at it. You can take Placebo's advice, which I think is great and more people should be looking into low cost ETF's, but you still have to save and invest over and over and over.

I'll take the DG option, ETF option, etc any day over the hope and pray you hit a magic stock and get rich method, haha.

  • Why China Adds Unprecedented Strategic Value To Apple [View article]
Thank you toneguru. Those of us that are focusing on the next 20 years see the potential of Apple in a world where more people enter the middle class and technology dominates in larger areas of our lives. Apple will lead there. They won't be alone, there will be others, but Apple will most certainly be a big part of it.

  • Why Dividend Growth Investing Is Not Always Best [View article]
But having that obligation to pay a dividend is what I think can help keep management focused on the bigger picture and keeping capital allocated better. I think it can compliment what you said in many ways.

  • Why Dividend Growth Investing Is Not Always Best [View article]
I think DGI is a great strategy, but like everything, each person is different. I'm 29 now, and when I was a kid, I would always flip to the business section. I couldn't get enough of it. And I love DGI for that now. I love shopping at WMT, buying something from PG, drinking a KO, reading on a AAPL product. I love the companies, reading and following them - and being a shareholder. And I love the raises I get for doing nothing.

But DGI needs work like anything. You need scan the Dividend Champions list that David Fish kindly gives us. You need to make sure EPS are growing, because dividends don't come out of thin air. You got to watch that the payout ratio isn't to high. Like any kind of investing, you need to make sure your companies can grow earnings and that isn't always so easy at first sight. Luckily, the big DGI companies are great at it, so as long as you don't overpay, you might be ok!

  • Hershey Q2 2015 - Buy [View article]
Long HSY also. Great business, fundamentals speak for themselves. That and a powerful brand moat with the ability to increase prices when needed.

Also, a Hershey Almond Bar is so darn good.

  • Apple sees downgrade, defenders following FQ3 report; shares -5.1% [View news story]
Oh no! Mr Market took a hissy and marked Apple down! Big deal. Tell me how and what will not cause Apple to lead in the next 20 years and I will worry. Until then, just another sale sticker slapped on a good stock.

Exactly. Tim isn't a soft drink guy. Soft drink guys are soft drink guys, they know that business but Apple is a different animal. An animal Tim understands, and animal he studied carefully under Jobs.
