  • There Are Many More Satyams Out There  [View article]
Let me preface this by saying that this is not an apples-to-apples comparison, per se: take a look at Microstrategy (MSTR). I believe it was in late-2002 that it was found to have major account issues. In the subsequent two-or-so years, the company was able to regain its footing and regain some of the trust it'd lost; the stock price rebounded accordingly.

This is just what popped into my head when hearing of this Satyam mess.

  • uWink's Chances of Survival [View article]
Well Chris, you've spent a lot of time and effort writing such thorough reports on uwink. I appreciate it. I suppose getting a kennedy half-dollar for each share plus a $20 bill isn't the worst thing in the world. Perhaps, for those who choose to hold their shares, some time down the road the uwink technology will be ubiquitous to the point that the company goes public again. In all honesty, I'm not sure whether I'm going to tender my shares or not. - Dave B

Intraware (ITRA) does this type of thing, though they do more ESDM. Too bad they have bounced along the rocky shore of profitability for a number of years, and are now selling themselves for a crap price. Ah well.

  • American Superconductor Rises on Renewable Energy Deal [View article]
In the most recent CC, Yurek stated that the Average Sales Price (ASP) of AMSC's core electrical components for a 1.5 mW wind turbine is $50,000.

The math equates the $450 million order from Sinovel being for 9,000 1.5 mW wind turbines (through Dec. 2011).

Based on past PRs, it appears that Sinovel will be capable of producing no more than 2500 or so 1.5 mW turbines through 2010.

What am I missing here - Sinovel ramping production much faster than publicly announced? Planning on somehow manufacturing 6000+ turbines in 2011? Two-thrids of Sinovel's 1.5 mW orders outside of AMSC? ASP higher for Sinovel? The order is for more than just the 1.5 mW version?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. - Dave Born
