Clean Energy Systems: Nearing The Point Of Inflection? [View article]
Fracking bans and moratoriums are mounting as new evidence comes in each day about tainted water and air. I was long CHK, but thankfully got out. I think gas will play a small role in transportation, but much smaller than originally thought.

I don't think it's an option, considering new regs that are coming down on drillers that will add a hefty price to drilling, thus raising the price of natural gas to the consumer. The costs just don't make it feasible.

I agree. Something is happening. CHK is not just under the microscope for antitrust violations, but there are ads all over PA, WVA and Ohio to join lawsuits for CHK conspiring and underpaying leaseholders on royalties. I think they spend more in defending lawsuits and cleaning up their messes than they do drilling. No amount of new management can put lipstick on this one. IMHO. Sold my stock long ago.

Many have said all along that CHK has significantly overvalued their assets. This is just a case of them truly getting what their acreage is worth. The depletion curves in the Marcellus and Utica indicate that acreage is not worth what they are touting as well.

Since Marc has been right all along, I'd be interested in seeing his 2013 forecast, as well.... or is SA still not publishing his articles? We like the truth, even when it hurts our egos.

Oh Kyle! Did you ever hit the nail on the head with that statement. We know hell will be here a year from now, but I doubt CHK will, and even if they are, I don't see them in any better shape than they are now
Chesapeake Energy (CHK) agrees to sell a substantial majority of its remaining midstream assets to Access Midstream Partners (ACMP) for ~$2.16B; the assets are located primarily in the Marcellus, Utica, Eagle Ford, Haynesville and Niobrara shale plays. CHK also anticipates completing the sale of its remaining midstream assets by the end of Q1 2013 for ~$425M. CHK +0.3% AH. [View news story]
Right on Marc Anthony! Something leads me to think CHK is setting themselves up to be wholly purchased soon, but I could be wrong. Actions like this make me wonder who Aubrey is really working for. Could it be that he is setting the company up for failure while walking through another door and betting against CHK?
On another note, doesn't the management at SA like you telling the public the truth? Haven't seen you in awhile.
As far as other investments, I agree with you on coal, just haven't narrowed my focus to where to place my bets. News yesterday of the 7 Attorney Generals suing the EPA for methane emission rules could create massive expenditures for all shale companies. Shale is a lose lose proposition. The writing is on the wall.

Best and most honest comment yet, Bfeshbach. They are selling the very things they need to make money on. Not looking like a good 2013 for CHK.
Precisely, dividend_growth and wrynot! Their debt will not await the price of gas to rise. When I see puff pieces like this, I wonder who is behind them or why writers don't do more research.
Here's an interesting article about the rapid decline of the wells. IMHO, fracking more and more wells in closer proximity and at a higher cost does not bode well for the future of this company.
