I question whether the reason the price is 40 000 USD is because they will be buying in battery technology for the cars from Japanese battery companies.
I also question what motor and pcb system they will use. If the motor is home grown (based on domestic motor design) then there will be problems. The PCB will without doubt be imported, which usually reduces problems with motors. But not in this case.
Then there is the question of safety. There is no chasis that is designed and made by the chinese that is safe. Maybe they will be using an older chasis from japanese car maker that they have purchased. But will its composition be the same quality. Maybe not.
Warren better get some quality control engineers ready...

Buffet has got the federal government under control, this was what he brought to the table in the deal. In return BYD sold a stake at below-value and got the Chinese government on board.
Having been to the electric car factories in China, I can tell you the quality (if they manage to roll out the car in time as the technology is not yet there) will not come anywhere close to Volt.
They are offering bigger car, no brand, lower quality vs. The Colt which will have lesser spec but will be better in quality.
