  • UBS 'Prices and Earnings 2009' Report - Can Chinese Consumers Rescue Global Economics? [View article]
The RMB has very little to do with consumer buying power.

I have a friend in Dalian, China with a law degree. He works for a good company and is very smart. He earns 2000rmb/month (300USD/month).
A cheap solicitor in UK costs more than 300USD/hour.

In fact an UNEMPLOYED person in uk can get in excess of 500 USD/week if they take up all their benefits.

Plumbers in UK earn around 100USD/hour.

Even if the yuan is 100% undervalued (impossible), it makes no difference what so ever to the unbelievable disparity of wages.

To take this point further, government officials in UK can afford to buy a couple of nice properties. Where there are many government officials in China with in excess of 10-15 properties (hidden of course in the names of their families). This helps explain the other side of the spectrum.

Average Wage in China is disgracefully low.
Income differential between rich and poor in China is disgracefully high.

Lets be clear, the average person in the street is poorer in relative terms.
