  • Last Call For Europe? [View article]
Lou, i would also look at DFE, which is investing in Mid and small caps in Europe, which are companies much more geared towards EU domestic economy. I also have FEZ, but most companies there are multinationals deriving a big part of their revenues outside Europe (a lot in EmMa), so more geared towards the global economy. It seems to me that Europe is doing well on the back of a revived domestic economy. Even Spanish unemployment is improving, albeit at a very slow pace ….but thats Europe, not US. So things are slower….

VXZ is basically the same as VXX, just less volatile. I would also add TVIX for those which want even more juice.

  • Visa: Correction Is Needed In The Price [View article]
VISA has something which justifies this valuation, probably even higher valuation: A rock solid BRAND. in addition huge barriers to entry and a very good management very attentive to new (pay by phone) technologies. Just think about the 3 Bn people in emerging markets, which will become middle income in the next 10 years: if they want a credit card, what credit card will they chose? V, MA and AXP. This is a stock to own for our generation.

  • There's A New Kid On The Global-Dividend Block: Mebane Faber's Cambria Foreign Shareholder Yield ETF [View article]
SYLD and hopefully also FYLD will be much better than DWX or SEL FP. The later concentrate only on a high dividend yield, which is misguided, as you end invested in Utilities and financials, which were underperforming a lot (at least in 2012 and part 2013). I agree with you: i like the focus on FCF generation and stability, which then allows a company to create more shareholder value in form of buybacks and dividends.

  • Brazil, Vale strike deal on tax dispute [View news story]
its not unlike the overblown fines with which banks are slapped in the US at the moment. Using profitable companies as ATM is nothing new for governments and of lately even more popular. Cost of doing business I guess.

  • Vale: Should You Buy At $16 Per Share? [View article]
thanks for the article. you forgot to mention that China just accepted Vale's VALEMAX supertanker to access its ports, after this had been a question mark for a while. This means efficiency gains for VALE and possibly higher and more sustainable margins.

  • NQ Mobile jumps as more funds transferred; MW issues new report [View news story]
but excuse me: its not only MW making checks and finding grace discrepancies. what about the findings of Chinese journalists and researcher? what about the inconsistencies with the revenue figures? what about the issues regarding Yidatong and Xun Ri?
ok: the money might be there. but also Sino Forest had cash....which then swindled slowly. So 103 Mio at Stanchart is proven? ok, then then NQ is valued at 103 Mio max.
how can anyone ignore the red flags and pretend NQ is proper?

  • Why Cirrus Logic Will Survive And Thrive By Swimming Next To Apple [View article]
thanks for your comment on diversification and concentration. in the investment theory there is a strong focus on the benefits of diversification, forgetting that diversification lowers the risk, but also the potential for profits. successful investors like Warren Buffett didnt create their wealth with diversification at all times. Once you have a good investment, it makes sense to take the risk of concentrating. and that is what CRUS is doing successfully with AAPL. Analyst should not penalise this in this case.....

  • Strong Future Growth And Decent Dividends Make Western Union A Compelling Stock [View article]
WU is the merchant of choice for most OFW (overseas filipino workers), which contribute 1/3 of the yearly Filipino state revenues through remittances. Most overseas worker (more than 15 Mio people) dont have a bank account, as too small and bank fees prohibitive. same goes for Indonesian and Bangladeshi workers abroad. This is a huge pool of of steady growth for the years to come.
