      Awaiting Apple Earnings and Guidance
@Camden, I think that there's reasonable support at 86 and strong support at 74. So what I think will happen is that over the next several days as we get bombarded with poor earnings reports, AAPL will fall into that range and be range bound until earnings. At which time it's anyone's guess what would happen, but I would bet on a gap down, followed by capitulation.

Of course this is all wild-ass speculation on my part. But it is fun to speculate when you have no skin in the game. I can be far more objective.

I wouldn't do it. It would do nothing for the bottom line, i.e. bring in market share. That is THE number one goal for Apple, to increase market share, and use that cash position to its advantage to do so.

It should be clear by now that Apple management is not concerned one iota of the shareholders near-term needs, because they know in the long term, the choices they make today will benefit them tomorrow.

Think market share and user-centric design. Apple wants to change the world here, not with investors wallets.

Apple Investors: The Bottom's Not In - Just Yet
The reason I threw AAPL in here is that this is a reprint of a post from my blog www.zacharybass.com where I post about investing in Apple, with a strong focus on market and sector analysis. Sometimes my blogs are focused completely on Apple, sometimes focused completely on the market. And always focused on helping the Apple investor out of the Wilderness ;-)

Cash Position Best for Apple Investor

I have been suggesting a cash position since early September. Had you listened, you would not be worrying about the near-term.

Why is it that my posts attract so much political squabbling? Are there not playgrounds for such things?

Yes. If you want to see my latest opinion of our wonderful up day and where I think this government is leading us lemmings, then check out this post on my blog, it's entitled: Born in the USA, Living Under Communism!

This whole nationalism movement we experienced in yesterday's market makes me ill.

      Now What for Apple Investors?
@blueblueherring, yes I meant NOT. I'm sure the meaning got across successfully. But thanks for the pointing out the error. I wish I had time to edit the articles, or perhaps someone to look the posts over. Maybe someday when I enter the nexus and my words influence the markets.

Thanks @Constable Odo, you are a voice of reason. I too wish I had the influence over the markets that some attribute to me. I would be a very wealthy man, but alas.

You live in a dream world @Apple Heavy. If I and everyone else was in an all out effort to sell AAPL stock the net effect would be to push the price up. There are three things that move the price of any stock; market sentiment (that is the level of prevailing fear and uncertainty in the market or sector), news events that directly or indirectly affect company performance, and lastly company fundamentals. These are in order of gravitas, with sentiment having the most gravitas by several orders of magnitude over the other two.

By the way, if you really want the full Zach Effect, come to my website where I have a blog daily and have a forum where hundreds of others participate and monitor. The blog is iPhone aware.

@Toni + So, I'm clueless, eh? Seems I was the ONLY contributor on this site that was calling for this fiasco last week.

      @top_tier HUH?!?! I don't get your complaint!

I simply call them as I see them. If you can't take the bad news when it stares you in the face, then maybe you should get out of the way and crawl into your own personal carapace.

And as far as the "beautiful cup and handle," I never saw it confirm, thus it never happened. You can't pretend that patterns exist just because you can see them in your mind. Either they're there with confirmation, or they are not!

@GSlusher - The Three Crows pattern, by itself is a strong indicator that fore tells market direction well above the means. But in concert with the other indicators it is practically writing on the wall. When you have the confluence of indicators as we have the chances of a follow through is near certain.

Denying the validity of patterns and indicators is simply living in a dream world.

@squawk, I rarely pay attention to after hours trading. It's mostly noise, unless there was a significant event, like an earnings call or product announcements.

Unfortunately my follow-up article was not published here. I still think we're going down to test 1200 on the S&P. Here's the follow-up to this article:

The late session bounce was apparently caused in part by a published report that the Wall Street Journal cited, that there were a number of companies kicking the tires of Lehman, including BofA. But after the market close BofA said they weren't interested, and GS backed off too. The bump may have been assisted by Oil hitting a nearly 6 month low, and short covering on beaten down sectors.

I'm not so sure how much credence to put into this bounce.

@Liam I have been short for the past few days. My positions are well in the black, and I expect there to be much more downside. You can see my daily calls on my blog: www.zacharybass.com
