World's Top 100 Transnational Companies Ranked by Foreign Assets [View article]
The only difference between American and foreign cars is that people under 50 buy foreign and people above 50 buy American. If I went only by my own experiences, I would tell everyone that foreign cars are trash. I have never had a good experience with a foreign car. On the roads around here, I don't see any foreign cars over 7 years old. I see a lot of 1985 GM cars. I had one. It got 25 mpg. It had a 25 gal tank. I could get 3 car poolers in it. I traded it in when it had 236,000 miles on it for an economical foreign car. Because there were four of us in the new car, it got 23 mpg. I had to replace suspension parts, engine parts, timing belts, etc. I got a parking ticket for the 85 Chevy three years after I sold it. So, if you want to buy a foreign car, go ahead. I won't bad mouth you or your car.

This is not "green' or alternative energy. This is just intelligent efficiency. This is what we need. Not the propaganda that we hear from politicians. If politicians were serious about global warming (oops, climate change), they would outlaw racing and tractor pulls. They would outlaw semis travelling over 100 miles. Already, trains are 5 times more efficient than tractor-trailers. With the improvements listed above... What are the politicians waiting for... election day?

Please define subsidies. What you are alluding to is analogous to deductions that individuals take on their income tax form. Oil and Gas corporations would be paying over 100% corporate taxes if it were not for what you call subsidies. Actually they are. For every $10 billion that XOM makes, $50 billion is paid in taxes to you and me, we the people.

There was a lot of research in the 70's on "clean coal" i.e., coal gasification and coal liquification. We also made methane (NG) from CO2 and water. Are we starting over? I think "renewable energy projects" means that the same projects are renewable for grants every 10 years or so.
XOM is producing NG from coal beds in Colorado now.
Why do we call it 'green technology" when it is CO2 that makes the earth green? Reformulated gasoline makes your vehicle less efficient so it produces more CO2. Catalytic converters maximize the amount of CO2. (just trivia. Nothing to do with article)
We can save more energy through conservation than we can produce through "alternative energy."
"Cap and Trade" sounds like Enron. Selling a non-existent commodity.
I agree that we need to stop talking and utilize every avenue available to us. Great article.

The cost of investigations into AIG's bonus payments, litigations and loss of productivity will dwarf the amount paid in these bonuses. Even if the bonuses are repaid, the money will not be repaid to the taxpayers. This "show" was strictly an opportunity for Congress to bandstand and make people think they are looking out for them and secure re-election. Half of the Congressmen had no idea what they were talking about, the other half were attempting to distract us.

DonaldRay - Nancy Polosi promises to nationalise the American oil companies, the same as Venezuela. And remember Oboma is a socialist, too. Also remember, ExxonMobil paid $16 billion more in corporate income taxes in the US than they made over the last 4 years.

ExxonMobil has already done this. They have developed a separator that will allow more powerful, lighter and longer lasting batteries in cars. No one has made any real money on gasoline, except the government and bank cards.
