ack: Brazilian ethanol is made from sugar, since Brazil's warmer climate is suitable. It is much easier to produce ethanol from sugar than corn.
Brazil is also self sufficient in crude oil and its derivatives and ethanol represents only a small proportion of its overall energy needs.

Ethanol as a transportation fuel is a scam. It relies heavily on government subsidies and legislation to be viable. Ethanol gives lower mpg than gas and it takes more energy to produce ethanol than it gives back. Switch grass as a feed stock would be an even bigger scam.
