From Investopedia: DEFINITION of 'Revenue Per Available Room - RevPAR'
A performance metric in the hotel industry, which is calculated by multiplying a hotel's average daily room rate (ADR) by its occupancy rate. It may also be calculated by dividing a hotel's total guestroom revenue by the room count and the number of days in the period being measured.

    Alance and others:
Thanks for the responses. I will look into them (probably today since it is raining yet again).
I set something on personal capital, then I got the call to invest with them while they put my money in ETF's. I can do just as well on my own. Stayed away from it since, but will go back and review it with a more open mind.
Do you (or anyone else) have reservations about linking your investment sites with these??

James--they were never lost. Many are stopped and then released. The system is a joke, but I am probably singing to the choir here.
At least in the past, they used to ship them back during election years to look good. Then after the election it was, let them go and tell them to appear in a certain court on a certain day. There was also the stories that they did not have the money to house/ transport them--especially at the end of the fiscal year.

I have been using Yahoo finance to view my portfolios in one place--haven't changed mainly due to I was familiar with how it worked and too lazy to search other options.
They have gotten so bad that I know I have to get out of there and find another.
Looking for a good website where I can set up/ monitor/ update and track my portfolios in one place--along with my watchlists.
Hoping to get input from better minds than mine.

Find a good local butcher. Mine has a farm where they raise their own cattle. The pigs are all raised locally too.
Don't have to wait for a sale to get better prices on a better cut of meat. Plus, you are helping the economy by supporting a small business.

Not as stark as Soylent Green, but they are already taking care of some of those issues (abortion, assisted suicide, seniors not receiving life saving care). There are ways around the laws to hasten their passing and it has been happening.

  • Why I Will Start Social Security At Age 62 [View article]
mikem0309--Just wanted to let you know that I have said a prayer for you and family too as you go trough this. Liked your outlook on the time you have been given with your "early" retirement.

I could not read all the comments associated with this article (way too many). I am also one of many who will not be able to count on SS when I reach that age. That is because I worked for the state in a contract where I did not pay the SS taxes with the pension system in place for me (before I began there and in which I had no choice). I will obtain some SS for the 11 years I worked prior, but the will be drastically cut as the "penalty" for the job I chose.
I am not complaining as I have been able to put myself in a position where I do not need SS to continue my lifestyle. It will about get me gasoline for the month. Just like mikem0309, that could change for all of us, so there are no cut and dry answers. The back and forth is intriguing and mind boggling at the same time--which tells me that something should be done to make it a lot easier.

I liked the article for it's presentation and the numbers (albeit without the caveats) that were presented. I see it as another way to look at dividend investing for all and the compounding that results.
    Just sayin

  • Constructing A Monthly Income Portfolio [View article]
Is it me or the fact that someone who has enough invested to garnish 2K/ month has been at this for quite some time. I would think that they would have also learned about the emergency cash to keep on hand (6 months of expenses according to some).
Borrow from the cash and reimburse it on the months you are fat. This should settle out in the first year and then run on it's own-yes?

Thanks for the article Tim. 1st got in just before the last split and added while still under 40. Have started wondering if the money would be better spent elsewhere, but enjoy the quarterly reinvest.
I am tired of only hearing the negative about the soda end of things, so your balance on that is refreshing.
Patience is indeed a virtue in this market.

So you paid nothing for your stock that has been growing through the "slashed dividend". Nothing plus something is still a positive unless it goes to zero---then you are even.
Wish I could get a deal like that since I have to pay for my shares.

  • 8 Big Name Stocks Raising Dividends And Expectations [View article]
Have to agree with the sub standard WMT I shop at. Being it is somewhat rural here, the options are limited without traveling to one of the cities.
My WMT has poor customer service with the employees not even wanting to acknowledge you are there, none the less supporting their job.
I remember when WMT was cutting edge with the beginning of RFD and their ability to stock the shelves so quickly. Now it is like playing the lottery. You have a chance of finding the items you want in stock, but no longer a guarantee.
My attitude when it comes to WMT--if you want cheap-that is where you shop (both price and quality)
