  • Nokia (NOK) +5.1% premarket, adding to yesterday's gains (I, II). CNET has published an interview with CEO Stephen Elop in which he says Nokia is "planning a lot of exciting things with Verizon." Verizon (VZ) currently offers the mid-range Lumia 822, but the flagship Lumia 920 is for now an AT&T exclusive in the U.S. [View news story]

  • Pac Crest has joined Deutsche and Raymond James in questioning the strength of demand for Nokia's (NOK) Windows Phone 8 hardware. Like others, it thinks initial sellouts were due to limited supplies, and believes AT&T is selling only 10K-15K Lumia 920 units/week. Altogether, it forecasts 1M WP8 shipments for Q4, with sell-through of roughly half that total. Meanwhile, Swedish carrier Tele2 says it has sold out its Lumia stock, but it received an initial shipment of just 2K-3K units. (Oppenheimer[View news story]

  • Nokia (NOK -4.3%) has given up some of last week's gains. Oppenheimer's Ittai Kidron offered mixed commentary this morning. He raised his Q4 and 2013 estimates, claiming checks indicate "decent demand" for both Symbian and Lumia hardware, as well as continued traction for the Asha line. But he also argued the Lumia 920 is benefiting from heavy subsidies and discounting, which he expects will moderate in Q1, and questioned the sustainability of Asha sales as "low-priced and strongly powered" Android gear proliferates. [View news story]

  • After steadily climbing today on volume over 2x its daily average, Nokia (NOK +13.7%) is at levels last seen in August. Optimism regarding Lumia 920 sales following some positive datapoints (I, II) could be a factor, though Swedish i-bank Handelsbanken cautioned this morning early Lumia 800/900 sales triggered a similar response. SA's Jacob Steinberg pointed out today net institutional ownership of Nokia has been rising. [View news story]

  • "With each new generation of Windows Phone, Microsoft not only closes the gap with iOS and Android in important ways, but it also differentiates in important ways," says The Verge in a fairly positive review of Windows Phone 8 (MSFT). It also declares the OS to have the best home screen of any platform, and likes its built-in Office and cloud apps. But it's not crazy about the Nokia-powered (NOK) Maps app, and says there are still "countless annoyances" that hurt the user experience. (yesterday: I, II[View news story]

  • Nokia (NOK) is partnering with mobile ad exchange owner Inneractive to launch the Nokia Ad Exchange. The exchange will provide access to the 120 ad networks and agencies currently supported by Inneractive, and gives Nokia an additional service to pitch to developer partners. Between Google's AdMob, Apple's iAd, and independent providers such as Millennial Media (MM) and Jumptap, the mobile ad space has gotten crowded. [View news story]

  • Nokia (NOK) and Verizon (VZ) introduce the Lumia 822, a mid-range Windows Phone 8 device that sports a 4.3" display and will go for $100 with a 2-year contract. The 822, formerly code-named Atlas, looks more like the Lumia 510 than the 820, which (like the flagship Lumia 920) will be sold by AT&T. The 822's introduction comes just ahead of Microsoft's (MSFT) San Francisco Windows Phone 8 launch event, which starts at 1PM ET (live blog). [View news story]
