Research In Motion Prospects Remain Bright [View article]
i dunno. my sense is there's a lot of whistling pass the graveyard by these rimm analysts--if not for this quarter, then for the prospects going forward.
more advertising costs, lower price points for new phones i would think translates to margin squeeze. plus, you gotta think that both the iphone and the new gphone are gonna affect the sales of the BB to some degree, anyway.

As an avid tennis player, I admire your injection of the sport in your metaphor.
Having said that, if Penn is forced out of business and ceases to produce tennis balls, rest assured companies such as Wilson, Dunlop, Slazenger etc. etc. will be there to guarantee a healthy supply of green fuzzy balls for (we) players to smack around.
As for the shirt, it must be all white, collared and manufactured specifically for tennis, according to club rules. I'm a size large. Thanks in advance.

Imagine that!! MSFT lacking ideas and innovation of their own, decide to take a successful Apple idea (in this iteration, an ad campaign), blatantly (but poorly) copy it and bring it to market under the MSFT badge. MSFT is so much the 'classroom nerd' I'm beginning to feel sorry for it. Perhaps that's what the new 'I'm a PC' commercial is supposed to evoke---pity. Pathetic!!

"Do we really want this company crushed?"
Your argument for why one shouldn't bet against GS has been reduced to the plaintive question you posed above. What does that have to do with anything? You lost whatever credibility your arguments contained when you brought emotion into the equation.
Do you think Lehman traders shed a tear when they took out Bear Stearns? Do you think Goldman cared when they help take down Lehman? Big crocodile tears are flowing for all of the financials, I'm sure...

@miketobias DUH!
that's precisely why this ad campaign would have been brilliant FIFTEEN years ago--- you know, right about the time microsoft was in ITS prime and its stock price per share actually went up on a consistent basis.

ultimately and probably even nearer-term, he must worry about compressed margins. Goog gives lots off stuff away to scorch the earth just like msft, but eventually that 'cool free stuff' has to pay off. imo, goog has reached the awkward teenage years. it's a huge and important company, no doubt. but it's getting pimples, searching to stay popular and will no doubt overreach its competency (goog phone for instance) to stay that way. too big, folks. too big...

Hey Hawk Since u just bot (and complained about on yesterday's blog) your second iphone (you hated it so much u bot another to replace the one you threw to the ground and stepped on), why don't you test out Apple's CS by calling them and asking them y it is you can't get more than 6 hours of nonstop and simultaneous internet/email/music/g... on a 3g network on a single charge? Maybe they can help you!! Or maybe you can just buy some MS products (since ur so enamored with their services) that will fill the void: a pocket windows based cell phone, a zune, an xbox and a vista based notebook (make sure you keep the notebook plugged in; max battery life is 3 hours with the best of batteries).
Problem solved Hawk!! No, really! Don't mention it!

after that comment (above), ur 'technical' analysis was met with deaf ears, namely mine, and pretty much cuz u apparently don't eat ur own cooking. but maybe ur a dog, maybe u were trying to post on Seeking Alpo.

Wow. You haven't taken your meds today, Huh? It strikes me as odd that someone who has amassed the money you claim you have has the time and/or inclination to pontificate from the pulpit as you've done here. I think you are either:
A) An academic type who's long on theory and advice but short on real world experience and funds or
B) Someone with an axe to grind/agenda, i.e. just plain short
Either way, this is just one of millions of blogs on the net, so your 'wisdom' is unlikely affect that "99 per cent" for which your message is directed. And as far as the other "1 per cent" you claim to be a member of? Well, they're too busy making money to bother dispensing advice on a silly blog.
