Crown Castle and the Tower Operators: The Foundation for Next-Gen Wireless
CCI processes applications quicker than AMT. The carriers want their sites on air as quick as possible. AMT customer service is decent and used to be the best but has slowly gotten worse and fallen behind CCI. When you have a search ring and you can choose between collocating on AMT or CCI I'm going to recommend my client chooses the CCI tower. I don't think AMT is a bad company, I just think CCI is better from a customer service standpoint. They are easier to work with, return calls quicker, more efficient process, etc,. Sometimes you can't get AMT to return a call. CCI has aggressively expanded AND improved their customer service at the same time. I am impressed by that. I admit This is only one aspect of the company but I wanted to add my two cents because of my past experience working with both companies.

      Joe,
      Nice article

      Nathan,
I think most of the risk would be borne by the company generating the signal (carrier) or the antenna manufacturer not the owner of the steel (tower company) Additionally, I would imagine the lawsuits would generally target the deeper pockets (carriers). Furthermore, radio stations have been generating much more powerful wireless signals for much longer and to my knowledge they have not been successfully sued for damages resulting from RF radiation.

      All,
The biggest risk with CCI is the eventual bankruptcy of Sprint Nextel. All of those global signal towers acquired were once upon a time owned by Sprint. So it follows that Sprint antennas will be located on almost all of the former Global Signal towers. When Sprint Nextel goes belly up all of that lease revenue goes away. You can't enforce a lease on a bankrupt lessee.

I have professional experience negotiating and placing antennas on all of the tower companies facilities for all of the carriers and Crown Castle is the best tower company. After I quit working on developing wireless infrastructure I made one investment in wireless telecom and that was a long position in CCI.

Ethanol: Our Answer to Reducing U.S. Dependence on Foreign Oil
      Dave W:
Corn is a type of grass.

      Tim:
Sugarcane based ethanol is a far superior choice to corn based ethanol. We can import it from Central and South American countries.

Of course Barack Obama supports corn based ethanol. He answers to the Acher Daniels Midland company and he is from a corn producing state, Illinois.

shows the authors ignorance. Brazil leads the world in developing ethanol, Denmark in wind power, Germany in solar power. The US does not lead the world in any kind of economically viable alternative energy.

U.S. Savings Rate To Increase, Finally

Wow, such a bold prediction. The savings rate may begin to rise or it might not.

My suggestion. Start saving by not purchasing any worthless non-predictions from James Grant.

Oil, Gas, Electric Cars, the Market and the Economy
      Dr. No

Yes, I think we should import sugarcane based ethanol from Brazil. If the US removed the import tariff on imported ethanol, other countries with suitable climates would be incentivized to grown sugarcane to produce ethanol. I think India, Central and South American countries would be, in general, better trade partners than middle east countries. The goal should be to diversify energy sources. Ultimately cars in the US could be powered by a combination of fuels. Some electricity produced domestically, some domestic and imported ethanol, some domestic and imported gasoline.

Sugarcane based ethanol is 5 times more efficient than corn based ethanol. Sugarcane based ethanol is a partial solution to a huge problem. We still need to reduce energy consumption while diversifying energy sources. Telecommute more, improve public transportation, etcetera. There is no one solution but I'm tired of sugarcane based ethanol being put in the same category as corn based ethanol.

Not all ethanol is created equal. Corn based ethanol is counter productive. It is forced on American consumers because of politics/special interest that are relevant to the US market only.

Sugarcane based ethanol is a viable supplement.

Exxon Joins Competitors in Moving Away from Gas Station Ownership
You people complaining about congress and government harassing the oil companies have got it all wrong. Exxon recently sold its gas stations in Brazil to an ethanol producer in Brazil, Cosan. This is not about U.S. politics/regulation. It is much bigger.

Ethanol Producers in Trouble as Corn Sets New Record
At some point people outside of Brazil will realize the benefits of sugarcane based ethanol. It might not happen in the United States because our federal government is effectively run by large US corporations, but I do believe Brazilian ethanol companies will be able to export large quantities of sugarcane based ethanol in the not to distant future. Maybe China, India or other markets. I am long on Cosan (CZZ) and willing to wait. All of the mis-information about sugar cane based ethanol will go away and the truth will prevail in the long run. Sugarcane ethanol is one fuel that can be used to supplement gasoline.
