  • Why Is the Market Going Up When Jobs Are Going Down? [View article]
I suggest there is just a huge disconnect between markets and reality.

What did Nasdaq 5000 predict ? Even last year the Dow was near a high just before the Great Recession.

The best anecdotal quote is that the market predicts or represents fear and greed.

  • The Problem with iPhone Killers [View article]
Interesting the way the debate is framed using the phrase, "I-Phone Killers" considering Apple is currently in third place in the smart phone category worldwide. Any proliferation of Android would push Apple to number four.

Similar to the computer industry, Apple get positive press for going from low single digits to high single digits in market share. Currently Apple is only number one in market hype !

The real I-Phone killer is the ATT coverage network for which any other manufacturer would receive endless negative press.

Indeed, pick your entry points with care.

While both long and short may lose value over time, look at the difference in price with FAS and FAZ and the and their typical average daily moves.

Perhaps not so easy to be find a balanced hedge.

I am sure the "Smart people" said the same thing in 1930 when the market was up 90%.

Another correlation is that Obama is trying his to do his best imitation of FDR.

    Happy Halloween. Very scary !

  • There Is Nothing Wrong with Price Deflation [View article]
It should be no surprise that the conventional wisdom that got us here is exactly wrong, again !

When first learning about the Great Depression in school, we were told that the cause was an unsophisticated banking system and we ( collectively ) were too smart now for it to happen again.

Evidently instead of being too smart, we were just too arrogant .

  • Whole Foods Market Well-Positioned for Gains as Organic Food Sales Soar [View article]
The "regulations" are so broad as to basically be meaningless.

    One minute of research turned up the following;

    "Manipulation of regulations
Critics of formal certification also fear an erosion of organic standards. Provided with a legal framework within which to operate, lobbyists can push for amendments and exceptions favorable to large-scale production, resulting in "legally organic" products produced in ways similar to current conventional food"

    and

"Manipulation of certification regulations as a way to mislead or outright dupe the public is a very real concern."

    and

"In December 2005, the 2006 agricultural appropriations bill was passed with a rider allowing 38 synthetic ingredients to be used in organic foods. Among the ingredients are food colorings, starches, sausage and hot-dog casings, hops, fish oil, chipotle chili pepper, and gelatin. This allowed Anheuser-Busch in 2007 to have its Wild Hop Lager certified organic "even though [it] uses hops grown with chemical fertilizers and sprayed with pesticides"

Thanks to government "regulations", even pesticides can be labeled organic !

  • Why Everyone Is Wrong About the Inflation/Deflation Debate [View article]
The biggest problem comes from the people in government who think that inflation is good thing. Perhaps for this true for debtors and borrowers, but no on else.

Also, the amount of misinformation being spewed. I actually heard a commentator on CNBC say, "Deflation caused the Great Depression"

While I am not an economic genius, seems to me that is exactly backwards. And these are people setting our economic policy ?

Always quite amused by the "Organic" marketing gimmick as here is not even a legal definition of the term organic. I always ask myself , how can a vegetable NOT be organic ?

Likely these are the same consumers who believe global warming can be combated by not turning on the heater in their car or starting a compost pile !

Having said all this I hope enough people will try the organic salmon at $25.00 per pound to make your investments profitable. Also , don't forget to pick up some organic tartar sauce ( on sale , $7.50 for 8 oz jar ) to top it off !
