Usually I prefer to own stock in companies that have been bought but I have own C for many years and have a certainty that it will survive this disaster. I also own WFC, JPM, and BAC and they will survive, I believe. Some have recently increased in share price.

I don't think the writers even understand basic finance. We are in a really deep financial stress which without government help will not get better. Get ready to watch the blood in the streets....
Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
In an administration that has prided itself in not overseeing anything, we now are pleading for oversight. What a joke this bunch of blind men is. Does anyone believe that we need more Enrons, World Coms, and now the entire financial system. Please plea for them to just put their heads in the sand and await someone to comein and straighten out this mess. It is Iraq all over again.
Inflation is HERE! The cost of living of most items we use is flying out of control. Profits for companies will continue to disappear and stocks will drop to "fair value."
Don’t Buy What Wall Street Is Selling [View article]
I keep looking at these markets and can only wonder. I can't imagine what the earnings will be next year and buying on trailing earnings is nothing but guess work. Even the oil stocks are going down since investors can not figure what the price of oil will be next year. I am looking at AIG and would add to my portfolio if I could understand what the markets will look like next year. The banks are going down hard since they had no idea what is risk management. The options markets are being run in London and the FTC has no idea about what is going on. Next year must be an improvement.

I find the article quite interesting but I am stuck with a portfolio of "blue" chips which have a reasonable payout. Most people who talk of "dead" money fail to account for the dividends. In addition, what does one do with mounds of cash? CE's pay nothing, bonds are for traders, stocks and real estate no longer provide a satisfactory return. Own a little of everything?

Cash by default! I can't imagine any time when everything, including cash, looks like a loser. CE's are losing money, stocks, real estate, and soon commodities will follow. The government is pouring money into IRAQ and borrowing to do so. A MESS!
Still too early to nibble at banks, small or large. I have suffered the losses on financials during the first quarter and didn't see the train coming. Pardon the metaphors...
Why It's Time to Be Invested in the New Recession [View article]
galewhitaker is about correct. We are watching the dollar implode, oil explode, food riots around the world, and are living on borrowed money. We are exporting dollars to the middle east by the bales, have no policy, and are indifferent to the plight of our own people. It is much easier for Iraq's citizens to obtain school, medical, and intrastructure aid that our own states. And...we will probably vote for four more years of the same...
The CDO mess is "eating our lunch" and the SEC is asleep. Even I could see this mess coming and I am just a small investor. I bought my house through a bank, paid for it, and received the deed. Now we sell the paper and resell the paper. What a mess!
