Market for Electric Vehicle Batteries Is Heating Up [View article]
Jeff, your book sounds interesting- I am wondering why there is not a mention of Geothermal Power plants in the link that describes your book? Have you included them in your research? If not, I recommend you do some research- it is not new technology, instead it is well-proven, and enjoying a tremendous resurgence in interest , and we have terrific resources to support it. Newer "Binary" method makes it possible to be 100% green, and also allows use of cooler-temperature resource to produce electricity. Another big advantage is they produce power 24/7 - and prices are some of the lowest, competitive with gas and coal plants, but with NO pollution.
Hydroelectric vs. Slow Volcanic Power [View article]
As more articles are written about geothermal electric generation potential and application, more people will begin to see what a viable source of power it is, and become less skeptical of the process. They will prove to be good for the economy, as geo is one of the most reliable and constant producers, and requires NO fuel to operate, produce NO greenhouse gasses, and will compete price-wise with coal-fired plants in the production of base-load (constant production) power . As to transporting the power: many geo resources are very close to the large and growing population centers of the southwest (check the map in the article), and plants are being built in those areas. Since they are completely non-polluting, there are not issues of toxicity to local populations. Some of these can now be built very quickly: Raser Technologies is implementing a process that will allow very rapid deployment. Their first plant (in Utah ) is scheduled to come online in 2 months - they broke ground in May of this year.

Aaron, it would be great for you to do some in-depth research here on investment opportunities in the companies involved in water . I hope you will include HOO (European company) in the list, they have some involvement in China, and several other nations -

THANK YOU, PG&E. I wholeheartedly applaud your forward-thinking. If we do not wish to be left in the dark ages, huddled around smoky fires, the time to act is now.

Opportunities in the Real Crisis: Water [View article]
as Mark Twain said- "Whiskey is for drinking. Water is for fighting over."
He also said, "I've seen a heap of trouble in my life and most of it never came to pass."
I think he was right with the first statement-water is life, and there are so many more lives now on the planet to support-and so much more pollution rendering lots of the once-usable water toxic. I would say water purification equipment will be more and more in demand.
Much as I would like to believe access to water is a 'right', it is a limited resource and therefore will be treated as any other commodity. And that could easily mean 'water wars' .

thank you Brad, for an in-depth, detailed description of Emcor's very complex business. I am long EMKR and also believe it will sail-dramatically. What happens with the apparently huge short-interest will be interesting.

Philip Lyon must be unaware that until the opening and ramping-up of operations at the NJ plant this business will not be in a position to have positive earnings-the companies they have purchased are ancillary to the operation of the NJ plant, not the basis of their business. COIN is still in a "developmental "phase, and to suggest otherwise is irresponsible, IMO. When the completion of that plant occurs, there will be ample opportunity to accurately evaluate the viability of it's business plan.
Comparing the cost of coal-fired electric generation to solar (or other non-polluting, renewable electric generation) without factoring in the ultimate, inevitable cost of repairing environmental damage the coal-fired plants will cause is inaccurate. The clean-up costs (not to mention the costs of global warming, health effects of breathing polluted air, etc.) may eventually be reflected in a carbon -trading scheme, and therefore make the comparison easier- but for now, you are comparing a heavily-subsidized industry (coal) with a barely subsidized one- U.S. policy-makers need to wake up and see the train wreck we are headed for, and start emulating the European model of subsidizing a cleaner future, that also eventually will cost us all a lot less. (remember, with renewables, the fuel to power the plants is FREE .Forever. )
Where Are Emcore's Commercial-Sized Orders? [View article]
Mr. Left, I read from AP the following regarding EMKR's "solar deal in China" as you phrase it above: "Emcore will initially deliver a 50-kilowatt concentrator photovoltaic system to be installed in Langfang, China. Emcore systems are designed to operate with high enough concentration to operate at a lower cost per watt than competing technology.
Once the small system is tested, evaluated and proven to be effective, XinAo will install CPV systems with 60 megawatts worth of annual generating capacity."
So it seems they are just beginning this process with a single unit: how is it you extrapolate this to be "nothing more than a college science project" ? It is abundantly clear you have an agenda here, and intentionally misleading the reader is your course of action to further that agenda of discrediting EMKR with the goal of lowering the stock price and making a large profit on your short position.
