  • Book Review: Robert Hefner's 'The Grand Energy Transition' [View article]
Natural gas is the cleanest of fossil fuels. But it is not carbon neutral, therefore it has no good long term prospects.
Author should get (sic) the fact that Western-Europe is completely running out of natural gas. Japan has little to none. Russia and north-africa are not reliable partners for investment. The U.S. 'going natural gas' would create a cultural/economic dichotomy visavie the rest of the world.

The chances of another post-peak-oil business-cycle with natural gas as an energy source is zero.

  • Will Electric Power Cause the Next Price Shock? [View article]
The august 2003 blackout in the U.S. and parts of Canada cost at least $10 billion in lost economic activity. And that is just one single event. Watch again this summer as a lot of businesses and org's will reduce operations, or shut down.
An underestimated additional benefit of solar panels is that they reduce transmission congestion, offset PEAK-loads, reduce the need for storage and/or additional powerplants operating at low capacity utilization, preventing blackouts and brownouts in hot summer months.
