  • A Second Chance To Profit Does Not Happen Often So Don't Miss It [View article]
Good information and I always learn from your articles. Quick question: I was thinking of buying BAC's new non-cumulative preferred BAC-Y (temp BKMRP) with 6.5% yield @ $25 which is about where it is trading now. I assume you would choose BAC over BKMRP because you believe BAC's upside is 30% or so over the next couple of years which far exceeds BKMRP's return over the same time period, but a few words from you on this comparison would be appreciated.

Good interview and Rick George (PWE COB) certainly doesn't seem to be in a panicked. I believe he is the same guy that bought a lot of shares recently too.

  • Crude Oil Price Prospects As Seen By Market-Makers [View article]
Very informative article. One point for clarification: in the sentence "It is a slightly better reward than a bet on a long position in Brent crude and DNO ..." shouldn't DNO be replaced with DBO? Also, if you could replace the numbers [x] with their corresponding tickers on the chart I think it would be easier follow the discussion (at least for me).

    Happy New Year!

    Hi Avi,

Very well written article and enjoyable to read. For the record, I finally made some money in this gold market (traded GDXJ twice last week) by following your daily emails.

    Thanks!

  • A Simple Regression Debunks A Simple Short Thesis; Buy Sturm, Ruger And Smith & Wesson [View article]
Very well written article. Regarding the Adj NICS chart, can you explain the seasonal variation, e.g. lows in May and peaks in fall? Something to do with hunting season perhaps?

  • A Statistical Analysis Of S&P 500 Returns [View article]
Can you provide an excel file that downloads the data and provides the analysis for user input (stock ticker) and (dates of interest)? For example, GLD from 1/1/2005 to 6/29/2014.

This would be a big help to readers interested in trying your suggested statistical methods on various stocks.

  • How Random Is The Market, And What Does That Mean? [View article]
As you note, the histogram and fitted normal distribution shows the 1-day log returns are not normally distributed. Have you tried to fit another distribution that allows for the heavier tails with any success? If so, you could then use this distribution in place of the normal distribution in the derivation of the Black-Sholes option pricing model to produce a better (more realistic) options pricing model which in turn could be used to identify ill-priced options and hence, stack the cards in your favor when placing a trade. Most likely the derivation would be complex but a numerical solution shouldn't be that hard to implement, even if you have to use an empirical form of the 1-day log returns if you can't fit something of known mathematical form.
