  • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners: Why This Little-Known MLP Is Trading At A 45% Discount [View article]
Master Limited Partnerships are defined under US law and must be US domiciled. BIP is domiciled in Bermuda thus it is not eligible to be an MLP. It is a limited partnership, so as a unitholder you receive a K-1. I just wanted to clarify that it is not a *Master* Limited Partnership.

  • JMP Securities cuts the TBTF banks due to the European crisis, with analyst David Trone's base case scenario (60% chance) seeing a Greek exit, but no contagion. He sees just a 10% chance Greece stays in the EMU. That leaves 30% for exit, but with contagion.  [View news story]
    That's JMP Securities, not JPMorgan.

  • Geithner says the administration plans to allow tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans to expire, despite calls from a growing number of Democrats to delay any tax increases, and to extend estate taxes at 2009 rates. He also says Elizabeth Warren would be an "enormously effective leader" if chosen to run the new consumer finance agency.  [View news story]
You miss the point. It's not about throwing wealthy people a bone, it's about economic recovery/growth

  • Google's (GOOG -1.2%) 30% stock slide can be reversed only by a catalyst, but investors are nervous about the chance of blowing the company's huge cash hoard on an ill-conceived big deal. Short of success with a new business, unveiling a big stock buyback or a dividend would make sense - at least ensuring that the cash won't get blown on a silly deal.  [View news story]
I'd love to see some share buybacks, and it would make sense for GOOG to do it because it looks like good value right now.

Shares outstanding have been steadily increasing over the past few years, presumably because of stock issued for acquisitions, because they have always had tons of cash on hand.

  • The Interior Department fines the U.S. unit of BP $5.2M for submitting "false, inaccurate, or misleading" reports for energy production on Indian tribal lands in southwestern Colorado.  [View news story]
Oh we want oil, we just don't want to use the oil we already have, we would rather import it and give more money to Chavez and Saudi

  • Consumers who want to boycott BP (BP) find that it’s easier said than done. BP supplies Arco stations, as well as pumps that aren’t affiliated with a major brand, like at Safeway. It produces aviation fuel and cruise ship lubricant, and even supplies natural gas and wind energy to utility companies. The company’s reach makes it practically impossible to organize a boycott, says an expert.  [View news story]
Boycotting a BP station hurts mom & pop operations much more than BP

  • Perma-bear Albert Edwards just got even more bearish, saying the economy is set to collapse "like a pack of cards as soon as the steroid-like stimulus is reduced... With core inflation rates now sub-1% in the eurozone and the U.S., we are only one recession away from Japanese-style deflation."  [View news story]
I love how next to this story there is an ad reading "What's Driving Gold?"

  • Granted, BP's (BP) profit on siphoned Gulf oil is relatively small, but NYT's Dot Earth wonders why BP gets to keep the oil at all. Why isn't the oil being earmarked for U.S. reserves?  [View news story]
Agreed, why would the US have any claim to this oil? It's BP's well and BP's problem, they should get to keep the oil.
