  • Duke Energy: The Dark Side Of Solar Energy [View article]
It was the Japanese nuclear disaster that caused the German gov to force their utilities to shut down their reactors far ahead of planned dates and destroyed their utilities financially. Duke does not have the exposure that the German utes did. I suppose you could worry about Exelon, in the event one of the California reactors suffers the same fate as Fukushima.

Rex far prefers spending on stock buybacks to dividends. XOM is a total return co. I prefer Chevron. May even sell RDB to buy CVX.

How about ESV officers & board get an 80% haircut, with no guarantee that salaries will be restored sometime in the future? Perhaps when / if the dividend is restored?

  • What Went Wrong In Brazil? [View article]
I'm no fan of Ms Rousseff. Between the slowing in China & the drop in oil, I don't believe the fall in large chunks of the Brazilian economy have anything to do with her policies, nor with Krugman theories. The Chicago school. ha. Like having Capone's minions descend to overthrow the elected gov and hand control back to the upper classes; eg, Allende.

  • Southern Comfort For Income Investors [View article]
SO has been falling for some time with all the high-risk/over budget projects. More recently, all the utes are out of favor - Duke and AEP in particular (I own) have been falling also. I have said I wanted no part of SO, based on their nuke investments, but when the yield hit 5% the other day, I couldn't say no. Let's hope the nukes serve them better than they have Exelon.
