I went to school at a time when MBA degrees were still affordable and still meant something. I suppose they still do, but in my career i saw too many CPAs who didn't know accounting and MBAs who couldn't read financial statements to have much conviction in that. I went back to school to get an MBA at the ripe old age of 28 because i was convinced my liberal arts background in education (English and Journalism) wouldn't cut it if i wanted a business career. i was both right and wrong, as I ultimately learned that many business professionals simply couldn't write worth a damn, argue persuasively or think creatively. I could, and both degrees helped me enormously throughout my career.
