  • HOG Is About to Catch Swine Flu [View article]
    mallarde:

Citigroup and other institutions of similar stature baffle me with their knowledge of the recreational industry.

Some dealers are taking on additional inventory for the upcoming months in anticipation of plant shuttering, relocation of production, layoffs, etc. in the fourth qtr.

    Units with actual titles?

    Channeling of inventory ?

  • Harley-Davidson (HOG) is up 5.2% early on after Citigroup lifted its shares to Hold from sell, and boosted price target by 50% to $26. Firm says channel checks indicate sales trends have improved since Q2, noting other leisure segments have seen similar gains.  [View news story]
    Archman Inv... Good call.

Can't figure this one out . Maybe just a muscle flex to see who is not paying attention. Follow Citigroup and be $$$$ again.

Past three months are the prime selling months so if there is a slight increase in sales so what. It is to be expected.

Could it be that Harley Davidson said something about , [ to channel ] and Citigroup took it to another direction. LOL

Does this sound like the same old fox in the hen house?

At this point in time I see India as a dumping depot for the Harley

The Sportster model which was a bust here in the US, with the "Harley-Davidsons Guaranteed Trade-In Value For Sportsters" towards an upgrade.

Harley has already established a subsidiary outside Delhi.

Are units delivered counted as units sold when they reach India soil? Similar to US dealer network, even though a sale to private individuals have not transpired

    Harley Rider.
These are not my words but words that should not go un-noticed.

Unless Harley-Davidson connects with a new generation, It will die along with the old. [ riders ] That means not only offering products that appeal to a more youthful demographic, but marketing them to more discriminating minds. The younger riders of the Internet era are web-wired and world-aware. That makes them less likely to need or even accept “reasons to ride” [ spoon-fed to them by H-D corporate’s entertainment marketing ], and more likely to respond to initiatives evidencing [ corporate social responsibility.]

    Harley rider:
So much of your statement is out of context.
    What is your point?
My take is that you are not among the 60% college educated, high income owner of a Harley Davidson with little or no knowledge of Harley Davidson true history. Just a tattoo guy with a miniscule profile.

To put money in a rally supported by hope instead of revenue doesn't make good trading sense to me.

The trend is not going to appeal to the bulls in the near future..

Prime selling of inventory is over "summer months" and third QTR profits are going to be very slim.

Every indication is that the sportster program has failed acording to several dealers being forced to load up on this model. Sales are slow as we know.

The Co is leveraged to the nines. What's left ?

I find it interesting that cutting overhead is an open door for investors with a discretionary type buisness that shows little promise for many months to come.

    Good to see you back.

Agree with your assessment and would add that Harley-Davidson faces far greater challenges to its future sales.
Followed the stock down to eleven and stepped back. Have for some time looked at its true value to be around its hundred day plus avg.

Just a roller coaster ride , been looking for the next short . GS more or less implied the stock is selling short of its value so up goes the stock above the 50 day avg.
[ With the Fitch downgrade, there should be minimal chance for a short squeeze. Wait on this stock, or short it. ]
I will agree and anticipate the move.

Look at American industry and their American pride .
They have along with the union officials have made a mockery out of the American worker and their dollor.

How about a 1700 cc narrow degree single pin crank [ that Harley sound] liquid cooled engine.
    6-speed transmission. 108 lb-ft of torque at 1750 rpm,
dual adjustable air shocks and a 45mm four-way adjustable fork. 130/90 front and 170/70 rear tires mounted to 9-spoke 16-inch cast wheels.
Steel fenders. large floorboards front and rear, massive luggage compartments, lockable glove boxes, passenger backrest and grab bars.
front fairing mounted to the frame with a trio of headlamps
analog dials with LCD displays .
    electronic cruise control ,
iPod and MP3 compatible audio system,
    fuel-injected, fly-by-wire Electronic Throttle Valve.
Advanced Coactive Braking linked braking system with ABS
This would be a great touring Harley.
Kawasaki just came out with this bike. mso $17.899.00

Wake up Harley. old school old thinking

    1. There is no "equivalent" bike
    2. Watch them consistently say that Harley is equaled in fit, finish, durability, "and quality only by Honda." Plus, if you haven't looked recently, an "equivalent" Honda costs about the same as a Harley.

The Honda Gold Wing being in a class of its own so what are the equals.

So are they equivalent or not ? What models are you talking about in the Honda line up?

{ A side note about Honda , they exceded motorcycle sales worldwide year to date " 2008 " over 12 million sold ]

HOG has been a money maker for some time, playing the short.
PII has better appeal for playing long
    To many ifs.
Hog wants the Euro market, time is not on their side.
To play it long without a dividend return is not my way.

WINDSUN: AMF SAVED HARLEY TRUE HISTORY
Harley-Davidson did not have to choose which company would be best to "take over". There were no other companies in the United States that wanted Harley-Davidson. AMF offered to take over to save the company..
Another lie, perpetuated by Willie G. Davidson, is that the quality of the bikes decreased while AMF owned the company. EXCUSE ME! Some of the best bikes, shovelheads, came out in the '70's. Willie G. should be grateful that AMF was willing to continue his employment through the 70's despite his egocentric attitude.
Oh, and just to clarify one thing also falsely stated. Harley-Davidsons have leaked oil from the first bikes onward. The worst oil-leakers were made from 1947 through 1969 (coincidentally, the same year AMF saved Harley-Davidson). I lived this era ,know first hand. 49 PAN.
AMF nearly bankrupted itself trying to keep Harley-Davidson alive. Willie G. tries to make it sound like his taking back the company was his doing and he "saved" the company from AMF. WRONG. AMF asked him to find a way to take back the company because they couldn't keep it going any longer. They were losing too much money, but they wanted to see the company continue. remember one thing ,the Davidson family sold the Co for failure on their part So don't blame others
This is a quote from a harley history buff. Not me SO WHEN WE BLOW THE HORN make sure we know the truth not the heart felt stuff.
