They can only buy a certain amount under IMF rules. This is a great way to increase their gold supply in country. They can take it away from the people or just offer them a profit at a latter date. Either way they increase China's gold reserve. They have stated that they want to have gold as part of the new reserve currency. This allows them to increase the amount of gold in China.
