EcoGeeks: Invest Out of Knowledge, and Be Careful of What You Admire [View article]
Great article and posts. I was in energy R & D for 20 years and now do electrical contracting. The bottom line is: if you have a lot of wind, lot of sun, access to a deep lake or cool stream, fast water or tidal currents, lots of wood etc. use them. Don't rely on the goverment to make your investment to make your project viable, that can change every election. Conserve, insulate and think it through, which is what you all seem to be doing!
The Dollar's Decline: Taking Responsibility for the Future [View article]
Mr. Chinn: what garbage you spout! What we need at this point is TRIAGE. Stop the bleeding, ease the burden on Americans any way possible. Drill in the easiest places, wind, water, nuclear, clean coal, solar bio etc. etc. Everyone, everywhere has an asset and can help. Stow the politics until we can breath easier...then implement a longer tem solution. Higher taxes now will only drive the last nail in our coffins.
Energy Independance: Carter killed nuclear, Clinton gutted the military and taxed us to death, G W Bush using the best info available took on Sadam but could not find his stash of WMD.
Are we any better off ? Iran would love to take over Iraq in a heartbeat and with the oil they already have even our military couldn't fill the tank in a tank.
Skip ahead to November: IF we can turn it around in Iraq Israel stays on the map, the price of oil drops below $100 /bl , the middle east cools off, no more twintowers, we drill where we need to, we use wind, nuclear, coal, geothermal, hydro, tidal, solar, biofuel where they're profitable and we move away from oil as fast as we can (decades).

I'm an electrical contractor and find it convenient to stock up after normal working hours. For this reason HD is where I try to shop. Lately and especially since the 2008 Code revisions I've been talking tp HD headquarters to try to stock the stuff we now need. I've seen some improvement but not a lot. They don't need to throw dollars at the problem just some brains. They force me to shop at the wholesale electrical distributors who charge more and are only open 7-4 M-F. I don't know who decides what or how much to buy but they need help bad!

Back in the 70's coal liquefaction pilot plants showed a jet could travel 20% further using their fuel. OPEC dropped their prices so we dropped our program. big boy sounds like a real jewel
