Demand destruction is not happening -switchover to smaller more fuel effective and smaller cars & trucks shouldn't be termed demand destruction. I don't see less driving or cars on the road. Especially in places that have billions of people that desire to own the freedom that an auto allows and that have the wherewithall to purchase.
